Thank you to our generous donors! 🎉
Following our public appeal, Len Goodson and his family now have a headstone! Len Goodson was a Doncaster Rovers star in the early 1900s. When the team joined the Football League in the 1901-02 season, Len scored their first ever goals in that league. His sale to Middlesborough for a substantial sum helped to pay for a new stand at the team’s Intake Ground. Outside of football, Len worked as a labourer. Len did not marry and died aged only 41 in 1922. Now, thanks to your generosity, the Goodson family no longer lie in an unmarked grave.

But this isn't the end! We our supporting In Rovers We Trust with a project to memorialise some of the club’s earliest players buried in the cemetery. Find out more about this project and make a donation on their website here: https://inroverswetrust.org/memorial-project

That's a wrap on our 2026 walks programme! 🎉 We've welcomed over 160 visitors to discover stories from Doncaster's history including influential business owners, mayors, criminals and crime fighters and sporting stars. And not to forget our wonderful Bat Walk, detecting the bats that visit the cemetery. Thank you to everyone who has joined us and generously donated to our work. Now to start work on our 2027 programme!

This weekend we have a double whammy weekend, as we're running both a work morning and a walk!

Work Morning
Saturday 12 September, 9.30am - 12 noon
At this work morning, the Victoria Cross Trust will be giving a demonstration in guiding and how to restore lettering on gilded granite and polished headstones. Please note this session is subject to suitable weather conditions. New volunteers are welcome!

Sports and Recreation Walk
Sunday 13 September 2026, 3pm
Discover sporting stars and pastimes from Doncaster’s rich history. We will also be remembering Len Goodson after the end of our successful fundraising appeal to install a headstone for the Goodson family.
As always our walks are FREE but donations received go towards our cemetery improvements programme. There is limited on road parking on Carr Lane and the cemetery is a short walk from city centre car parks

📢 Len Goodson Project Update

Thank you to everyone who generously donated towards our grave marking project for Doncaster Rovers star Len Goodson. We are delighted that the headstone has been completed and we will be remembering Len at our 'Sports and Recreation' guided walk on Sunday 13 September at 3pm.

Join us to find out more about sporting stars and pastimes from Doncaster’s rich history. As always our walks are FREE but donations are very welcome. See you there!
