Sorry folks but we are not running today. I went to the track to check out the conditions because there is sometimes a dramatic climate change between Stockton, where I live and the Darlington area. Today, unfortunately, was the same consistent rain. It must have been raining most of the night because I took a few back roads and came across many flooded roads, so if you are going out, be careful out there.
For anyone who really needs a model railway distraction then read on.
During the month of May, we are very busy and hoping we have enough members to run our events but we can't afford to turn them down. You probably know that we rely on incoming money to pay our rent at Hurwoth/ pay for our insurance, which covers us for 5 million pounds of liability/ and to pay for track and engine repairs.
So this is where we are during May.
Saturday 9th, Croft with the portable track from 10am until 4pm at their Classic to Modern motor Show.
Sunday 10th Hurworth on our own track for Hurworth Classic Car event.
Saturday 16th
and Sunday 17th we are at Locomotion Shildon for the Magnificent Models Weekend from 10.am until probably between 4 or 5 pm.
Also on Sunday 17th we will be splitting our forces to cover our normal 3rd Sunday running at Hurworth.
At each event we will probably start off using our electric trains which can go straight on the track, then as the numbers of passengers increase, we will swop over to steam trains, then at the end of the day, we will let the steam trains cool down so that they are ready for transportation and we will revert back to electric to finish the day off.
We don't know if the event organisers want us to charge for these rides yet.
We have other events lined up for further weekends but some are not finalised yet, so I will keep you informed.
Hope to see you at one of our events.
Mick
