Redbay Lifeboat

Redbay Lifeboat RNLI Red Bay The RNLI officially established a lifeboat station at Red Bay on 26th August 1972.

In July 2010 a new Atlantic 85 lifeboat arrived at Red Bay and, after a period of intensive crew training, was placed on station on 29 July. The
new boat, number B-843 was funded by a gift from Mr and Mrs Colmer (England), and was named Geoffrey Charles after the donorsโ€™ son. This boat replaced B-728 Dorothy Mary, which had served the station for almost fourteen years, during which time she was launched 187 times and rescued 227 people.

Red Bay Lifeboat crew launched on service Saturday, 16th August, to assist a small fishing boat with two persons on board at 09.48. The two people who were fishing near Garron Point suffered engine failure and contacted the Coastguard. Due to the strong tides in the area, the lifeboat crew towed the vessel to safety to Cushendall. Everyone was safe and well.

We were very pleased to welcome Peter Sparkes, RNLI Chief Executive, to Red Bay Station last Saturday.
The visit provided the perfect opportunity to mark something truly remarkableโ€”the presentation of a long-serving certificate to Donal McAlister for his 54 years of dedicated service to the RNLI.
Donal has been involved since the very beginning, when the station was commissioned in 1972. He's worked as a volunteer crew member, launching authority and shore crew, and has been an essential part of Red Bay ever since. Many of our crew gathered to see this well-deserved recognition formally bestowed by the lifesaving institution.
Kevin Allen, Red Bay RNLI Operations Manager, said: "Donal's wisdom, commitment and dedication have been invaluable to us. What he's given to this station and our community is a real credit to him and his family."
This is what volunteering at the RNLI is all about. Donal, thank you for five decades of giving your time to help and rescue people around our coastline. You're a true inspiration to us all.
Huge congratulations, Donal. Well deserved.
