The C.D.C.C. is seeking volunteers to form a group responsible for opening and closing the recycling site.

Confession time: As Chair, this task has been on my to-do list, but I've admittedly dropped the ball due to numerous other commitments. I'm prepared to make amends; please send your suggestions for suitable penance, via email or in the comments.

We are looking for several individuals to join a rota so that the responsibility doesn't fall on just one or two people. I recall some interest previously, but we didn't gather enough volunteers to create a workable schedule. Therefore, it's time for another appeal.

If you are interested, please email your details by clicking here, or send a message through Facebook/Messenger.

Our goal is to prevent a repeat of past issues such as those below at the site.

As we know, Moray Council is facing financial constraints, so it's once again up to the community to bridge the gap.

Moray Council administers a fund of money from which awards can be given to groups and initiatives that fall within the 1975 boundary of the old Royal Burgh of Cullen.

The notion of the Common Good Funds is an ancient tradition from the late 16th century. The explanation below comes from the Moray Council website. Decisions on the Cullen Common Good Fund are made by the local councillors for Moray Council.

"The origins of Common Good Funds in Scotland are late 15th century and they have been identified as all "property of a Royal Burgh not acquired under statutory powers or held under specified trusts".

Until 1975, the Town Councils of those Burghs in Moray having Common Good Funds managed them. Moray District took over until 1996 when The Moray Council took over responsibility. The Members of the Council are in a similar position to Trustees."

There is still a pot of monies available to be awarded to groups. The application form and guidance document can be found by clicking here.

Firstly, a big thank you to those in the community who responded with information, and photos.

Secondly, the information has been passed to Police Scotland’s community policing unit in Buckie, and they have responded positively and are taking steps to get this reckless behaviour stopped.

Just another positive example of what our community will do to protect Cullen and Deskford, it shows our very positive community identify and spirit.
