🌱 What is Hydroponics? 🌱
You may have noticed us talking about our new hydroponic growing project and wondered what exactly hydroponics is!
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Instead, plants are grown in water that contains all the nutrients they need to thrive. The roots are supported while the nutrient-rich water does the hard work.
💧 Uses up to 90% less water than traditional growing methods 🌱 Can grow fresh produce in smaller spaces 🥬 Helps produce healthy fruit, vegetables, herbs, and salad crops 🌍 Supports more sustainable and efficient food production
Here at the Community Centre, we're excited to be learning about hydroponic growing and exploring how it can help us grow fresh produce locally. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, connect with others, and discover innovative ways of producing food.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing updates as our plants grow and develop. We can't wait to show you the progress!
Have you ever tried growing anything hydroponically? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Keep an eye out for details of our upcoming Hydroponics Open Day, where you'll be able to see the system in action and learn more about how it works! 🌱

Scottish Country Dancing anyone????

Last time we asked for ideas of what you'd like one of the things that kept cropping up was Scottish Country Dancing and Ceilidh's 💃🏻

We have a potential teacher who would be interested in putting on classes BUT only if there is enough interest!!! There needs to be a minimum of 8 people for a class to go ahead so comment below if this is something you would want to/be interested in attending 💃🏻

We are looking into hosting a Ceilidh in the near future but want to know if you'd like this to be a family friendly event or adults only?

Comment below and let us know 💃🏻🕺🏻💃🏻🕺🏻

🌾 Farmers Market Update 🌾

After speaking with potential stallholders and reviewing the exciting interest we've received so far, we've decided to move the launch of our Farmers Market to Sunday 9th August.

As this is our very first market, we want to make sure we can offer visitors the best possible experience, with a fantastic range of local produce, crafts and community stalls. Moving the date gives us the opportunity to welcome even more traders and create the vibrant market we know our community deserves.

We're delighted that additional stallholders have already confirmed for August and we're looking forward to bringing everyone together for a wonderful day supporting local producers, makers and businesses.

Thank you for your support, and we can't wait to see you on 9th August!

Interested in having a stall? We'd still love to hear from local producers, growers, makers and community groups.

Hello I'm Alison Purssell
I have become a regular volunteer at the Haven for a few months. My introduction to Anne and the Haven began by it's location to the Cullen Allotment, work 2 hours then coffee n cake and our friendship "grew" from there.
I have been involved with Cullen Art Group for 5 years. My artistic skills have been utilized painting our shed mural, making "Gaffer" the scarecrow ,slate painting and recently stone painting with Jo in the Haven. All good fun!!
It's great to meet people and be community involved.

🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷Just wanted to say the biggest of thankyous to everyone that helped make the best cancer now coffee morning such a success yesterday....we had an absolutely amazing turn out to it ...who'd have thought a conversation between myself and Jill Sowden in the office could have turned into such a big fundraiser?

We had so many donations handed into the office and no idea who most of them came from but thankyou so much.We have to mention Bookers Elgin,Tesco Buckie and especially Paul McPherson from Coop for providing everything we needed to provide all the food and drinks to our visitors on the day.Hope everyone paid him a visit at his stall and got a wee freebie 🩵.
Also thankyou to Jane n Ian Speyfruit in Elgin for the donation of fresh produce for us to make up bags of food to use at our produce stall.

Thinking of those no longer with us,the survivors, the fighters and those still to suffer.Hopefully our donation will help in some small way to make it a bit easier at some point through your journey.

We will update the total raised once all donations are in.
Many many thanks for everything 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

Eeeek look at our first little seedlings almost ready to be planted in the hydroponic towers 😱 in about 3-4 weeks these tiny seedlings will be on someone's plate!!! How crazy is that?! Fresh home-grown food from seed to plate in less than a month.....without the hassle and expense of needing specific soils/pesticides etc!!

We are waiting for our specially cultivated seedling packs from seed leaves.com to come in and then we shall have a variety of things to grow from basil to lettuce to kale to tomatoes....and hopefully we will be able to sell these at our farmers market! Giving our community fresh affordable food ❤️

Our first trial 'mini market' is due to be on 21 June so watch this space for more updates

*** PLEASE NOTE ***

As many people know we have two Electric Vehicle charging points at the community centre which are for all of the community (and visitors) to use.

We know our car park can get busy at times but please DO NOT park in the charging point spaces unless you are actually charging your vehicle.

There is overspill parking near the grass to the left of the main entrance, please use that if necessary.

Let's keep our community facilities available for all to use ❤️
