Jigsaw School welcomed the judges from Guildford in Bloom to judge their entry in the Schools’ competition. This year’s theme is `Food for Nature and Food for Me’ and our pupils have been busy during their GARDENworks sessions with Horticulture Tutor, Kay, designing and preparing our entry.

Pupils planned what they would like to grow and eat, sowed vegetable and flower seeds, and thought about how to attract and support wildlife in the garden. They tried companion planting to fit a lot into a small space and mixed vegetables with flowers and fruit with herbs that help each other.

The garden includes carrots, marigold, potatoes, beetroot, aubergine, basil, sweetcorn, nasturtium, peas, poppies, tomatoes, onions, leeks, pansy, blackcurrant, strawberries, mint, beans and more!

Well done everyone. We look forward to hearing the result next month.

World Cup fever has landed at Jigsaw! ⚽🎉

Staff are getting into the spirit with some friendly competition through our very own World Cup sweepstakes.

Pupils have been introduced to the tournament and the countries taking part in this week’s assembly. The tournament is being brought to life in class through activities such as designing footballs and team shirts, quizzes, colouring and fine motor skill tasks. Pupils will also learn the Makaton sign for “football”. Whilst the classrooms have been decorated with colourful flags (originally created during our Cultures and Languages Week), creating a fun and international atmosphere.

This week, we marked Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May) across Jigsaw Trust, taking time to focus on the wellbeing of our staff and the importance of creating a supportive workplace. 💚

With this year’s theme encouraging us to take action for ourselves, for others and for our community, our Mental Health First Aid team delivered a range of activities designed to promote reflection and positivity throughout the week.

Colleagues engaged in a variety of initiatives, including a wellbeing-focused positivity quiz and an uplifting staff singing session led by a local community choir leader. We also encouraged participation in Wear It Green Day today, inviting staff to show their support for mental health.

The week concludes tomorrow with a small gesture of appreciation (ice lolly treats!), bringing colleagues together at the end of the working day.

At Jigsaw Trust, supporting the wellbeing of our staff remains a key priority. Initiatives such as these provide valuable opportunities to pause and connect and reinforce a culture where mental health is openly supported and valued.

We will continue to build on this work beyond the week itself, ensuring wellbeing remains embedded in our everyday practice.

We are delighted to share that we have secured funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to enhance our digital learning environment for our autistic learners.

This support means a great deal to us, not only in enabling vital resources but also in recognising the importance of the specialist service we provide.

Thanks to this funding, we will be able to invest in:
• 20 laptops for learning, training and digital skills
• 10 iPads to support communication, sensory needs and personalised learning
• A video conferencing system for remote sessions, family communication and therapy reviews

These resources will make a real difference to the day-to-day experiences and longer-term opportunities for the people we support.

We are hugely grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for their support and for helping us continue delivering a much-needed service to autistic individuals and their families.
