Throwback 30 years, when our founder Stephen Miller took to the international stage. ๐๐
An incredible journey built on true determination, resilience and a passion for success. A journey that continues to inspire us today.
What an achievement and what a story!๐๐๐๐
30 YEARS AGO TODAY ๐ฅ๐ฌ๐ง
At 16 years old, I won my first Paralympic gold medal in Atlanta and became Great Britainโs youngest Paralympic gold medallist in field athletics.
It certainly wasnโt a smooth journeyโฆ
My throwing frame disappeared at Atlanta airport for almost a week.
I travelled early for a classification I was then told I didnโt need.
A hurricane delayed my competition by three hours.
And when it finally began, my opening throw was red-flagged for lifting.
I had to reset, trust myself and keep my nerve.
I went on to break the Paralympic record and win gold.
I competed on the penultimate day and received my medal on the final morning of the Games. I also managed to lose my roommateโs bronze medalโbefore eventually discovering it underneath my bed! ๐
Atlanta is the furthest Games back in my memory, but in many ways it is the most memorable.
That day began an incredible journey through six Paralympic Games and three consecutive gold medals.
Thirty years on, three thoughts stay with me:
Success is an experience, not a destination.
The past is for reference, not residence.
What we do in life may eventually become insignificantโbut it is incredibly important that we do it.
The medal marks a moment.
The experience helped shape a life. ๐
