Please donate to help rescue animals in our care. Founded in 1997, Assisi Animal Sanctuary is Northern Ireland’s largest independent animal welfare charity, providing shelter for up to 200 companion animals including dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs and various other small animals. All animals are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and de-flead and all our dogs and cats are microchipped prior to rehoming. Assisi operates a strict rehoming criteria to ensure our rescue animals find the best possible home. Assisi is committed to providing an excellent quality of life for our animals no matter what their age or state of health. Those wishing to adopt can find our rehoming contact form on our website. Once completed a team member will be in touch to discuss suitable animals. Please note access to the animal housing area is restricted to staff and volunteers working on site. Visitors wishing to adopt a pet and groups of visitors will only have access via pre-arranged appointment when accompanied by a member of staff or volunteer. 🕯️🌼 For the paws that have left our lives, but never our hearts. 💛🐾

Today, 27th October, is a day dedicated to remembering beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈🐾

Inspired by a Mexican tradition linked to Día de Mu***os, it is believed that the spirits of our beloved animal companions return home today, guided by the golden glow of candles and the bright petals of marigold flowers. 🕯️🌼

At Assisi, we know just how special the bond between people and their animals can be. They become part of our families, our everyday routines and our happiest memories. They leave paw prints on our hearts that time can never erase. 💛

Today, we’re remembering the precious animals who have been part of the Assisi family and have since passed away. 💛🐾 Each one had their own personality, their own story and a special place in the hearts of those who cared for them. They may no longer be with us, but they will always be part of the Assisi story and will never be forgotten. 🌈🕯️

For everyone missing a much-loved pet today, we hope their memories bring you comfort, their love brings you a smile, and you find a little peace in knowing just how much they meant to you. 💛

Some paws leave this world, but the love they leave behind lasts a lifetime.🐾🌈

🍂🐾 Education Sunday: Autumn Hazards & Your Pets! 🐾🍂

Autumn walks are full of wonderful sights, smells and things for our curious four-legged friends to explore! 🍁🐶💛

But some of those tempting treasures scattered along the way can pose a risk to our dogs.

🍄 Wild mushrooms
🌲 Pinecones
🌰 Acorns and conkers
🐌 Slugs and snails
🍎 Fallen fruit

💛 Our top tip: Keep a close eye on what your dog sniffs, picks up and eats. If you think they’ve swallowed something potentially harmful, contact your vet promptly for advice.

💛🐾 HAVE YOU PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE?

Making or updating your Will is an important step in putting your wishes in place and giving you and your loved ones peace of mind.

This October, you can take that step and support vulnerable animals at the same time through Assisi Animal Sanctuary’s Organise Your Will campaign.

Participating solicitors are waiving their usual fee for a basic Will or pair of basic Wills, with clients invited to make a donation to Assisi instead.

Your donation will help us continue providing the food, shelter, veterinary care and support our animals need while they wait for their second chance.

🐾 A hugely positive step forward for animal welfare in Northern Ireland!

We are delighted to see such significant progress towards introducing Ruby’s Law in Northern Ireland. 💛🐾

Animals are family, and no one should have to fear for the safety of a beloved pet when trying to escape domestic abuse. Recognising the role animals can play in coercion, control and intimidation is an essential step towards better protecting both people and the animals they love.

A huge congratulations to Christina Warner, founder of , and to for their dedication and tireless work in championing this important change.

At Assisi, we believe every animal deserves to be safe, protected and treated with compassion. We welcome this progress and hope to see Ruby’s Law become a reality, providing stronger protections for animals and greater support for those affected by domestic abuse. 💛🐾

🌿💚 A LITTLE HERB, A LOT OF HAPPINESS! 🐹🐰

Who knew a little bit of sage, parsley and mint could bring so much happiness? 🥰🌿

A huge thank you to one of our lovely team members for donating fresh herbs, lovingly grown in their own garden, for the small animals in our care! 💚🌱

Fresh herbs are a lovely treat for our little residents and something we usually purchase for them, so this thoughtful, home-grown donation was extra special! 🐹🌿

🐾💛 Happy Tails: Rudi’s Story! 💛🐾

Rudi was just 8 months old when she found her furever home back in 2017 — and look at her now! 🥹❤️

Her family tells us she’s been spoilt every single day since and has become their very best friend. Honestly, we couldn’t ask for a happier update! 🐶💛

These are the stories that make it all worthwhile. Knowing our former residents are settled, surrounded by love and living their very best lives is what finding furever homes is all about. 🐾
