Founded in 1997, Assisi Animal Sanctuary is Northern Ireland’s largest independent animal welfare charity, providing shelter for up to 200 companion animals including dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs and various other small animals. All animals are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and de-flead and all our dogs and cats are microchippe

d prior to rehoming. Assisi operates a strict rehoming criteria to ensure our rescue animals find the best possible home. Assisi is committed to providing an excellent quality of life for our animals no matter what their age or state of health. Those wishing to adopt can find our rehoming contact form on our website. Once completed a team member will be in touch to discuss suitable animals. Please note access to the animal housing area is restricted to staff and volunteers working on site. Visitors wishing to adopt a pet and groups of visitors will only have access via pre-arranged appointment when accompanied by a member of staff or volunteer. 🐾 Meet Popcorn 🐾

One of our very special Golden Girls, Popcorn is looking for a patient and understanding home where she can finally find her happily ever after 💛

This beautiful Collie x Spaniel cross can be wary of new people and takes a little time to build trust. But for those willing to go at her pace, the reward is something truly special. Once Popcorn lets you into her inner circle, you'll have a loyal best friend for life.

Popcorn is a bright, intelligent girl who loves learning new things and thrives during agility sessions. She enjoys exploring forests, sniffing out new adventures, beach walks, and having the chance to run free in a secure field, where she bounces around like a puppy again 🐾

She is looking for an adult-only home with no other pets, ideally in a quieter area away from busy traffic, as large and fast-moving vehicles can be overwhelming for her. Continued support from a trainer or behaviourist would help her grow in confidence and settle into her new home.

Popcorn may not be the dog who runs straight up to greet you, but she is the dog who will quietly steal your heart and never give it back. Dogs like Popcorn often wait a little longer for their perfect match, but we know her person is out there.

This is our wee Pablo — a pug cross with a big personality, a clever mind, and a love for adventure 💛

Whether he’s exploring the forest, sniffing out new places, or enjoying a run and play in the fields, Pablo is always full of fun and character 🌿🐶

He’s a very smart boy who loves his training here at the sanctuary… and yes, he can even crawl along on his stomach (a trick we never get tired of showing off! 😄)

Pablo is a confident, cheeky lad who loves attention from the people he trusts, and he is now more than ready for a home of his own.

He is looking for an adult-only home where he can build a strong bond with his person, and he will need to be the only pet.

Pablo has been with us a long time and is so ready for his next chapter — one where he can finally have a home to call his own 💛

He does have some behavioural needs, so he’ll need a patient and understanding home willing to continue supporting him.

But for the right person… Pablo will be an incredibly fun, loyal, and rewarding companion 🐾✨

Looking for a gentle companion with a soft heart and a quiet presence? Say hello to Oreo — our beautiful black and white girl who just needs a little time to feel safe and settled 💛

Oreo is a shy but sweet soul who loves her cosy space, often found tucked up in her bed watching the world go by. With patience and kindness, her affectionate nature slowly begins to shine through.

Once she feels comfortable, Oreo shows her special way of settling in… becoming a little biscuit-making expert as she kneads away in pure contentment 🥰 (it’s honestly the sweetest thing to see!)

She may take a little time to come out of her shell, but when she does, you’ll discover a gentle, loving girl who enjoys quiet companionship and calm affection.
Oreo is a housecat and will need to be kept indoors. She is looking for a calm home where she can truly relax and flourish at her own pace.

She would suit a home as the only pet, and either adult-only or with older teenagers.

💛 Happy Gotcha Day, Mollie! 💛

Our clever, energetic and affectionate girl Mollie has finally found her forever home!

At just under 2 years old, Mollie came to us looking for a very special family who understood her needs and could give her the time, patience and love she deserved. We're delighted to say that family has now been found.

As you can see from these smiles, Mollie is already off to a wonderful start on her new adventure. We can't wait to hear all about her future walks, garden zoomies and happy moments with her new family.

Congratulations, Mollie – this is the beginning of a beautiful new chapter. 🐾💛

🐾 Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Meet Jennie 🐾

As part of Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time to help animals in need. Today, we're shining a spotlight on Jennie, who has been volunteering at Assisi Animal Sanctuary for an amazing 14 years.

Jennie's love for animals, especially cats, first brought her to the sanctuary and she has been a valued member of Team Assisi ever since. Over the years, she has dedicated countless hours to helping care for the animals and supporting the day-to-day running of the sanctuary.

When asked what volunteering means to her, Jennie said:

"I've been volunteering at the Sanctuary for over 14 years now and I just love spending time with the animals, in particular the cats. I have a disability so I thought volunteering would not be possible, but the team are very welcoming and accommodating."

Jennie's story is a wonderful reminder that volunteering can be for everyone, and that the difference made by giving your time can be truly life-changing – for both people and animals.

💙 Thank you, Jennie, for your 14 years of dedication, compassion and commitment to the animals in our care. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do and proud to have you as part of Team Assisi. 💛🐾
