Last nights little arrival. A teeny tiny still with her egg tooth 🥺 found all alone and brought over by a lovely lady.
That is her dinner on her beak, she thoroughly enjoyed it 😂💚

This is a different one today.
This little one travelled all the way from London this morning.
Thank you so much to Pets 2 Places Bedford for such wonderful care and getting her here safely.
If anyone ever needs pet transport they do travel all over and ducks are welcome 🤗 💚

Sorry guys I can’t come out to waterfowl at the moment. I have concussion and can’t drive. You’re still welcome to bring any injured over x

Look 👀
She’s done it !!!
From completely paralysed both legs she’s walking 💚
She’s wobbly but will get stronger the more she uses her legs.
I’m so happy 😃
Time spent on physio, moving her in the water, vitamins and so on has all been worth it.
Never give up 💪

(Ignore the messy bedding she’s walking on, the geese ripped open a fresh bag while I was cleaning out 🙄😂)

Missy my wild girl who came in last year and had her broken wing fixed.
She comes and goes but look who she brings back for dinner 🥺💚

P.s yes they have pinched the chickens drinker 😂
I am so careful with babies that I can’t fully supervise when they are near bowls of water. It only takes minutes for them to drown. Better to be safe and they get water to drink 💚

Grumpy boy is home
My boy Beaky is having a bad moult so he’s come back home to tell me all about it.
He’s not a happy boy at the moment but he’s still my beautiful boy 💚

Angel wing
This condition is where the wing joint twists and the primary feathers stick out from the body.
Occurring in young waterfowl this can easily be treated if caught early and they can go on to live a completely normal life.
Untreated the condition will carry on into adulthood and the bird will never fly leaving it open to predators in the wild.
There’s not generally a known reason why this happens, some people believe it is caused by an incorrect diet, particularly feeding bread to ducklings at the park etc…
This has never proven and many ducklings who have always been fed the correct diet and never seen bread can develop it.
Some say it’s genetic or hereditary which I would tend to agree with.
So here we have a baby that has come in with angel wing.
All we do is put the primary feathers into the correct position underneath the wing and vet wrap for a few days.
Usually then the wing will stay and grow into the correct position.
It may take 2-3 wraps over the days ahead, check and wrap again.
I usually wrap the wing and then over the body but I’m on my own and this little wriggle bum didn’t want to sit still 😂
So he’s body wrapped.
Always make sure it’s not too tight and you can get 2 fingers down the wrap.
There’s loads of different ways to wrap, as long as the feathers are in the correct position it’s what works for you.
I’ll show you again once the wing is back to normal and the wrapping is off 😊

I am so proud of this little lady!!
2 weeks ago she had a small break in her leg.
But.. the next day she couldn’t use her legs, she could hardly lift her head.
I thought maybe shock was setting in.
She was kept warm and comfortable for the night.
The next day came with no improvement, in fact she looked like she was giving up.
She’s still a baby, so young and there was no way she was giving up.
Vitamin B complex twice a day in her water, niacin added to her food. Protein rich treats.
Daily physio to get her legs moving, holding her in the pool she could move her legs.
Yesterday she swam unaided for a short while.
Tonight when I went to tuck her in bed she tried to stand for me.
Look at her 🥺
What a clever girl. She’s on the road to recovery. Perseverance has paid off.
Also a pretty rainbow to end the day 🌈🦆
