At our Saturday 8th August meeting it is our great pleasure to welcome Helen M. Stevens with a talk entitled 'Embroidery - an art for all seasons'. Helen says 'Is just that. It is art which can capture both the turning of the year and the beating our our hearts.'
Helen began her professional career as an art embroiderer in 1981. Commissions for the Palace of Westminster, Harrods, The Edith Cavell Hospital and an international reputation as a fine artist ensured that 10 years later her first book, the Embroiderers Countryside, was commissioned by David and Charles. By the time it was republished as the "Masterclass Edition" 15 years later, another 12 titles had been added to Helen's portfolio. Lovers of textiles, history and the countryside continue to be fascinated by Helen's unique style: a mixture of anecdotal and hands on enthusiasm! Helen is now turning her hand to writing novels, encompassing her love of embroidery and life in the 10th century.
