Update on Sandra

Sandra is doing really well and has now settled into Gosberton House Care Home. With family working and everyone having different schedules, there will be times when we can’t always be there. If anyone would like to pop in and see her, she would love it. Seeing some familiar faces would really help brighten her day and break things up a bit.

We’ve also been able to purchase a mobility vehicle using the GoFundMe donations. Thanks to everyone’s kindness and support, Sandra is now able to get out and about at times, which means a lot to her and to us as a family.

At the moment, we are still awaiting updates regarding housing and are unsure what the situation will be moving forward, but we will keep everyone updated when we know more.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported us.

If you’d like to visit, just send me a message on here and I can let her know.

Upbeat update on Sandra 🌟
I’m so happy to share that mum has finally been discharged from hospital and is now settling in at Gosberton House near Spalding. This is an interim placement while we find suitable long-term housing and care arrangements. Most importantly, she’s doing well and still very much her strong, happy self. Feeling relieved, grateful, and hopeful 🤞❤️

🎄 Happy Christmas 🎄 I hope everyone had a lovely time spent with loved ones.

This Christmas looked a little different for us, as my loved one — my mum — spent it in hospital. Despite everything, her strength and determination continue to inspire me every single day.

As we head into the new year, I’ll be ramping up my marathon training and putting in some seriously hard miles for Run for Mum. I’m running the London Marathon in her honour following her life-changing spinal injury, and to support the incredible work of Spinal Research.
I’m currently only halfway to my fundraising target, so I really do need your help.

🙏 Please donate if you can — every single pound truly makes a difference.

📣 If you’re unable to donate, sharing this post would mean so much.

Thank you for your continued support — let’s make these miles count 💙🏃‍♀️

Update on Sandra

Mum is still in the Sheffield Spinal Unit and continuing with physiotherapy as part of her rehabilitation.

We, along with Dickie, have had a family meeting with the medical team. As difficult as it was to hear, they feel Mum is now reaching her optimum level of rehabilitation. This means that on discharge, Mum will still require a significant level of care and will be a full-time wheelchair user.

Despite everything, Mum remains positive, focused, and incredibly determined — showing the courage and strength we all know she has.

She has been given a revised discharge date of 28/01/26. The physio and OT teams are continuing to work hard with her, particularly to improve the strength and movement in her left arm, with the hope this will give Mum some independence with eating and personal care.

There is still hope, as nerve repair can continue for up to two years.

As a family, we are understandably very anxious about where Mum will go after discharge, as her current home does not meet her care needs. This may mean an interim placement before Mum can move somewhere she can truly call home, with the hope that this will be very local to Woodhall Spa.

Mum wanted me to be honest in this update. She would also like to thank everyone for their continued love and support, and wishes you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎄✨❤️

🏃‍♂️💙 RUN FOR MUM – LONDON MARATHON 2026 💙🏃‍♂️
I’m running the London Marathon 2026 for someone who means everything to me — my mum.

A few months ago, she suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury. After many weeks in intensive care, she has now moved to a high dependency ward and has had her tracheostomy removed. These are huge steps forward, but her journey is still incredibly tough.

This injury has completely changed her life and her future is very uncertain. She is my mum, my best friend, and has always been there for me — now it’s my turn to be there for her. Running this marathon is my way of showing her love, strength, and hope.

This run is for her. For her resilience. For her courage.
And for the thousands of others whose lives have been changed forever by spinal injuries.

I’m raising money for Spinal Research, the UK’s leading charity funding pioneering treatments to help people with spinal cord injuries. To take part, I need to raise a minimum of £2,500 — and I can’t do it without your help.

✨ Sandra's Update ✨

We’re so proud to share how well Mum is doing 💙. She has now moved to Ward E12, a high-dependency ward at QMC, and is making amazing progress! She’s completely off the ventilator and, if all goes well, her tracheostomy will be removed on Wednesday 🙏. Her feeding tube is also out, and she’s loving being able to eat and drink again.

Hearing her talk again has been so special — her character is shining through and she’s already loved by all the staff. The team caring for her have been absolutely amazing, and we’re so grateful for everything they’ve done.

Mum has shown incredible strength and proved all the doctors wrong with her fight 💪. She still has a small infection, but it’s being monitored and isn’t causing any concerns. She continues with physio and rehab every day, and she just keeps amazing us all.

As a family, we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you so much to everyone for your love, support and messages — it means the world to us and to Mum 💖.

Update on Sandra

Mum is still in ICU. Just as we thought she was turning a corner after pneumonia, she’s sadly developed a more serious chest infection called empyema. She’s now on stronger antibiotics and has had another chest drain fitted.

It’s been a big setback, and she’s had some really difficult days. Thankfully, she’s starting to feel a little better. Her ventilator weaning had to be paused, but it has now restarted — though she’s still very breathless and understandably tired.

Doctors are keeping a close eye on her, running regular blood tests and CT scans to monitor the infection.

She’s slowly making small steps back to where she was — still fighting.

Update on Sandra

We’re so pleased to share that she is doing better. The pneumonia seems to be behind her now, and around 3 litres of fluid were successfully drained from her right lung. The chest drain has since been removed — a big step in the right direction.

She’s still breathing with the support of a ventilator but is now weaning off it daily — currently managing three sessions a day, each lasting over an hour. It’s steady progress, and she’s come on leaps and bounds since last week.

She’s a lot more comfortable now, and last week we even managed a little pamper session which really lifted her spirits.

There’s still a long road ahead, with more ups and downs to come, but Mum continues to show incredible strength and determination. She remains in ICU and is being well cared for by the team.

Thank you all so much for your continued love and support — it truly means the world.

Sandra’s Journey – Latest Update

Mum is still in ICU at QMC, and as we knew it would be, this journey continues to be a real rollercoaster. Recently, she’s built up a lot of fluid due to the heart medication and has developed a slight infection. Sadly, one of her lungs filled with fluid, and she’s now had a drain put in. She is currently stable and on antibiotics.

We’d started to see some really encouraging signs — including slight movements in her left hand and toes, and she continued the process of weaning off the ventilator. However, this has temporarily had to stop because of the fluid on her lung.

Despite everything, she’s still fighting in true Sandra fashion — strong, determined, and refusing to give up. She continues with daily physiotherapy, and we’re so thankful for the brilliant team around her who are supporting her every step of the way.

We’re taking it day by day — some days are good, others more difficult — but we’re holding onto every small positive. Thank you all for your continued love, strength, and support. It really does mean the world.
