Great to read in today's Clydebank Post about the campaign to scrap the 3-year time bar that people with asbestos-related cancers currently face. We're grateful to Marie McNair MSP for her brilliant work on this issue and are delighted that the government have committed to introducing this legislation.

I hope everyone is well and that you have been able to get out and enjoy some of the nicer weather we've been having.

🎉This afternoon we celebrated a huge milestone as part of our joint Pension Age Disability Payment Project with Unite Scotland Glasgow and Renfrewshire Retired Members Branch.

Our Big Milestone Event celebrated our project hitting ÂŁ1 MILLION in financial outcomes for retired union members across the west of Scotland.

Our project's aim is to increase uptake of PADP (formerly Attendance Allowance) and other benefits. Hitting ÂŁ1 million is a huge achievement, and it's thanks to our group of dedicated volunteers across CAG and Unite. None of this would be possible without them.

We were also proud to honour the late Sammy Morris' legacy. It was Sammy who inspired our project in the first place and we wouldn't be here today without him.

Thank you to West Dunbartonshire Provost Karen Murray Conaghan for hosting today's Civic Reception, and to our other fantastic speakers today:

Rachel Gallagher, CAG Manager
John Mitchell, Unite retired member
Jake McLeod, Chair of Unite Glasgow Retired Members Branch
Susan Fitzgerald, Unite Regional Secretary

Very special thanks also go to our PADP Project Chair Theresa Jones, who sadly could not be at our event today but without whom our project would not where it is today.

And thank you to all those who attended today to help us celebrate. We're already hard at work for our next ÂŁ1 million!

We also look ahead to the work that still needs to be done to ensure justice for asbestos victims and protection for future generations from the danger of asbestos. Thank you to everyone who joined us today.

Clydebank asbestos group alongside Marie McNair are changing the “unjust” system⚖️

Currently, victims of asbestos caused cancer face “abhorrent” time limits on when they can claim compensation, and many of them die before they can.

It was great to attend the Scottish Parliament for Marie McNair MSP's Action Mesothelioma Day debate.

We were delighted to hear from Minister for Community Care, Alison Thewliss SNP, that the Scottish Government intends to bring forward a bill to remove 'time bar' for asymptomatic asbestos conditions in this Parliament.

And it was heartening to hear cross-party support for the ongoing campaign and also support for the removal of asbestos from public buildings.

Thank you Marie McNair MSP for tabling this debate and all those who contributed. You can watch the full debate here: https://www.scottishparliament.tv/meeting/members-business-action-mesothelioma-day-2026-june-25-2026
