Chulmleigh Old Fair

Chulmleigh Old Fair The History of Chulmleigh Old Fair Chulmleigh Old Fair has taken place every year since King Henry III granted a Royal Charter to the Town in 1253.

Even during the darkest days of two world wars, Chulmleigh managed to maintain this historic event. The fair always starts at 6.30pm, on the Tuesday evening following the 22nd July. The opening of the fair is followed by the ancient money scramble, although the coins are no longer heated until red hot! A large white glove symbolising, the King’s gauntlet, is paraded through the town by the Chief H

erald, before being displayed from the Town Hall throughout the Fair which ends at midnight Saturday.

To all our winners of cups and trophies, last year you were all given a sheet of paper to say where to return the cups. Please can you return them by 1st June, this allows us to have any repairs etc done. Many thanks

Book a spot at the Chulmleigh Old Fair craft market
We're very excited to open bookings for the 2026 craft market. We're keeping everything crossed for the amazing weather and visitor numbers we had last year!

When: Wednesday 29th July, 9.30am-3pm

Where: New Street, Chulmleigh

Book your place
What are the pitches like?

We have 3 types of pitch:
Indoor pitches are upstairs in the town hall. There is a maximum of 14 indoor pitches. We'll provide tables and chairs for anyone booking these spots. Tables are approximately 5ft x 3ft as we try to provide as many indoor stalls as we can in the space. Β£15
Smaller pitches are on the cobbled square in front of the church. The spaces in this area are approximately 8ft x 3ft. No gazebos. Β£15
Larger pitches are on the main stretch of New Street, between the church and graveyard. You're welcome to have a gazebo on the larger pitches. Β£26
Please bring your own tables and equipment if you'll be outside.

What can I sell?

Homewares, cards, clothing, plants, books, art! We've had a huge range of products sold at the craft market over the years. The only thing we can't allow is fast food vendors.

If you're selling any food products, you must comply with government food safety regulations. You can find out more about this at www.food.gov.uk

How do I pay?

Once you've submitted your booking form please pay ASAP to confirm your spot.

Pay by cheque - you can send a cheque to Coachman's Lodge, Leigh Road, EX18 7JW. Please include a cover note so we know who's paying.

Pay by bank transfer - sort code 30-90-49, account number 01469573. Please include reference 'craft market 2026'. This is very important - if we don't know who you are, we can't confirm your spot! Thank you ☺

Where can I unload and park?

We will send out an unloading and loading plan nearer the time. You'll be given a time slot to arrive and unload. You won't be able to keep your vehicle next to your stall, but there are free parking spaces nearby.

What time do I need to pack up?

The craft market finishes at 3pm, and you'll need to have packed your stall away by 3.45pm, as the road will reopen at 4pm.

Prizes!

There will be 2 prizes awarded at the craft market:
Best presented craft stall - a cup and a Β£25 cash prize.
Best presented overall stall - a trophy and a Β£25 cash prize.
Are you a charity?

If you'll be running a fundraising raffle, you'll need to hold a current lottery licence. The details of this licence must be printed on the lottery tickets.

We'd kindly ask you not to sell tickets for the raffle or carry out other fundraising activities away from your stall.

Please think about the planet 🌍

We love our planet, and we want to keep it clean, so please consider using limited packaging, and biodegradable packaging where possible.

Any questions?

Drop Sam and Ed an email on [email protected] if you have any questions at all.

We look forward to seeing you at this year's craft market.
