The Physiology of Domestic Abuse & Coercive Control

What happens to the brain, body and nervous system when someone experiences prolonged fear, stress, abuse or coercive control?

And why can it be so difficult to leave, trust our own judgement, or understand our responses even after an abusive relationship has ended?

Join us for a free, trauma-informed community workshop exploring the physiology of domestic abuse and coercive control.

Together, we’ll explore:

✨ Why it can be so difficult to leave
✨ Fight, flight, freeze and shutdown responses
✨ How coercive control can affect our sense of self
✨ Why we may doubt our own judgement
✨ The impact of prolonged fear and stress on the nervous system
✨ Understanding responses after an abusive relationship
✨ Rebuilding safety, self-trust and connection

💚 You do not need to share your personal experiences.
Come simply to listen, learn and understand in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment.

We know its only October🎃but if your hearing aids will need servicing before Christmas🎄we recommend you book an appointment with us soon to avoid disappointment.

If you are already registered with us, appointments can be made online at www.hearinghelpessex.org.uk/bookings or you can contact us using the details below and we will be happy to help.

Hearing aids need cleaning and retubing every 4-6 months and we hold sessions where you can get this done at 38 venues across Essex.
