Recently, I watched "Small Prophets", and it brought back memories of the Homunculi Approach from my autism studies years ago. It inspired me to refresh and recreate some emotional well-being resources using “monsters,” superheroes and visual characters to help children explore anxiety, overwhelm and emotions in a safe, non-threatening way.

Sometimes children with autism or PDA respond better when support feels depersonalised - not adult-to-child demands, but connection through play, imagination, puppets or characters. I remember my own son responding so much more positively when I spoke through a puppet rather than directly at him. It reduced pressure, lowered anxiety and helped him feel safe enough to engage.
