Addict to Author
What a very special, and sometimes emotional, afternoon we had with inspirational speaker Dee Blick who talked about her difficult childhood, her alcohol addiction, her recovery and transformation into an international bestselling author.

Blissful book club meeting yesterday. We had read Intermezzo by Sally Rooney. Not a favourite - but that's the beauty of a book club, you're out of your comfort zone. Plenty to talk about: grief, communication, love, s*x, stereotypes, loss, sibling relationships, what the heck did the title mean.

One thing we all didn't like: paragraphs that were 3 pages long, chapters that went on for ever, no speech marks, staccato sentences. Two of us read the first chapter 3 times before we felt able to continue.

Anyway, there was sunshine, friends, snacks, Pimms, good chat, fruit and cake. What a perfect afternoon.

Our next book is Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout.

On Tuesday we met Charlotte Spencer who owns Whorls Flowers, a small, sustainable flower farm in Copthorne. She grows all her own flowers and provides fresh seasonal flowers and bouquets from April to October and dried creations year round.
Charlotte is a member of Flowers from the Farm, a nationwide network of independent flower growers that prioritise environmental responsibility and sustainability. It was founded by New Covent Garden Market to promote British grown cut flowers.
Even though many of us are keen gardeners, we all learnt something new. It was a fascinating afternoon.

Lovely to see so many of our regular customers at the fête on Saturday. Hope you enjoyed your goodies.

We are so lucky to have some wonderful bakers in our WI - producing excellent cakes, award-winning fudge, and jam and crumbles made with home-grown fruit.

We really enjoyed catching up with everyone, and meeting some new friends. Hope we’ll see you at the Christmas Fayre in November.
