Rachel Strachan from Rebalance Healing - Rachel Strachan performed a restorative Sound Bath at our September meeting. Once everyone was snuggled up in the candle light Rachel took us on an auditory journey, using instruments such as crystals bowls, gongs and ocean drums to guide us into stillness through the soothing vibrations of sound. Some members fell asleep, some experienced an emotional release and others felt a physical release of tension.

The hour passed in a flash and we were all slowly brought back to reality ready to enjoy some cake and social time before drawing the winner of our special raffle prize to mark the 110th anniversary of the WI, which was a special edition Emma Bridgewater WI mug.

We didn’t film or take any photographs during the sound bath to ensure that everyone could feel completely comfortable.

For our last meeting before the summer holidays we held a Poppy themed Crochet and Natter Picnic on the lawn. We sipped on Pimms, ate poppy seed & lemon cupcakes and swapped beach reads.

A quick pre-meeting poll had indicated that our crocheting skills were not as competent as you might stereotypically expect from the
WI. Cath endeavoured to teach us how to crochet a poppy with the support of a couple of other talent super crafters.
Some of the committee recoiled at their initial vision of us being able to send dozens of poppies to a project in Corsham where they are making a huge cascade of over 10000 crafted poppies.

Some ladies finished their poppy on the night whilst others went home with a project to occupy them over the summer. Many of us were grateful to have four months until Remembrance Sunday.

What was clear is that our enthusiasm to learn has not been snubbed out and we hope to run some smaller crochet support sub-group sessions in the autumn.
