The Thomas Theyer Foundation

The Thomas Theyer Foundation Supporting young people in the High Peak with Special Educational Needs and Difficult Life Circumstances. It became a registered charity in 2015.

Thomas Samuel Theyer was 18 on June 7th 2013, he died just six weeks later on Friday 19th July 2013. Thomas was a happy, kind person who loved to make people laugh. He was a keen runner and loved to keep fit and exercise regularly. The Thomas Theyer Foundation was set up by Alan, Chris and Aimee Theyer, Thomas’s dad, mum and sister. The benefits Thomas gained from his love of physical activity wer

e many, and the overriding aim of the Thomas Theyer Foundation is to increase the access to exercise, in particular outdoor activities, for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and provide the opportunity for breaks for those children, their families/carers. The foundation also recognises there are other children and young people who would benefit from this opportunity, for example those experiencing difficult life circumstances, such as those struggling with anxiety, have suffered the loss a parent or sibling. The Foundation is currently looking at the opportunity to develop some buildings at White Hall Outdoor Education Centre in the Peak District of Derbyshire. Working with White Hall it is hoped that the buildings can be turned into standalone accommodation so that residential stays can be experienced at the centre. The benefits of physical activity are many including:

Improved muscle strength, coordination, and flexibility. Improved exercise endurance, cardiovascular efficiency. Better balance, motor skills and body awareness. Increased self-confidence and building friendships. Increased self-esteem. Experience of accomplishment. Improved quality of sleep. Improved general health and decreased health risks such as obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Release of physical energy, helping all to cope better with stress, anxiety and depression. The foundation is also looking for a Support Centre where it can provide group support, signposting and counselling. Currently the charity has a small counselling room in Buxton and additionally offers on-line counselling. The charity also has a Sports and Outdoor Charity shop in Buxton - with its own page. 🎂 Remembering Thomas on his 31st Birthday

💚💛Today, 7th June, is Thomas’s 31st birthday. While he is missed every single day, his legacy continues to guide and inspire everything we do. We continue our work, in Thomas's name, always remembering his wonderful smile, love for everyone around him, and his kindness.

✨ Remembering Thomas Campaign
Today also marks the start of our annual Remembering Thomas Campaign in schools. Schools are invited to partner with The Thomas Theyer Foundation to celebrate his memory while raising vital funds for the work the charity does for school age children. Whether it is hosting a non-uniform day, wearing bright yellow, or planning a fun activity, we would love to have your school on board!

🌲 Thomas's Trail - New this Year
Opened in April in Thomas's memory. Created in partnership with the Buxton Civic Association, this beautiful nature trail features 14 illustrated animal discs hidden high up in the trees. It offers a wonderful walk through Grin Low Woods, designed to get children, and adults, outside to connect with nature, and support physical and mental wellbeing.

🌱 Expanding Our Counselling Services: Now Open to Adults
The core of our mission has always been supporting the mental and physical health of children and young people. Alongside our dedicated children's counselling, we are now able to offer donation-based counselling for adults in our community, delivered by counsellors-in-training practice. If you or someone you know is going through a difficult time, we are here to support you too.

💬 If you work for a school and would like to register or find out more about our Remembering Thomas campaign please email us at: [email protected]
For anyone wanting to find out more about our children's sessions or our new adult donation-based counselling, please email us at [email protected]

🏃‍♀️🏃🏻Taking part in a race this summer and want to raise funds for us? Please get in touch for a TTF running top and for information. Coming up soon is Whaley Waltz and Buxton Carnival 4 races. Both races Thomas ran in June and July 2013 before his death on July 19th.

Thank you all for keeping Thomas's memory alive and helping us continue to do good in his name. 💚

Lovely to see families walking Thomas's Trail at Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park this week. Couldn't resist a look at the collection of related gifts and purchased key rings. Enjoy the trail everyone - it's a beautiful time to walk it.

Created in partnership with The Thomas Theyer Foundation, Thomas's Trail is a family nature trail that celebrates the Animals of Buxton — past and present — while creating a lasting memorial to Thomas and supporting wellbeing, nature, and community connection.

Trail leaflets are available from Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park for £2, or are included in your entry ticket to Poole's Cavern show-cave.

Have you found all 14 animal discs in and collected your trail completion sticker? 🥳

A huge shoutout to Mick Merrick and Ian Depee! 👏🏻

Mick and Ian are going the extra mile-literally-to raise funds for the Thomas Theyer Foundation and Little Cherub’s.

This September, they’ll be taking on an incredible challenge: cycling non-stop from Southport to Hornsea along the Trans Pennine Trail 🚴‍♂️💨

That’s an astonishing 215 miles in just 24 hours-a true test of endurance, determination, and heart.

This community-driven challenge is all about coming together to support two amazing charities, and every bit of encouragement and donation will make a real difference.

💛💙 Every mile they ride is for a cause that matters.
If you are able to, please consider donating-no matter how small-and help turn their incredible effort into real support for those who need it the most.

🌿 Looking for a lovely walk to do this weekend - why not visit Thomas's Trail. This Wednesday was a very special day for us as, along with friends and supporters of the Thomas Theyer Foundation and Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park we launched Thomas's Trail in Grinlow Woods. So many people to thank including sculptor Lorraine Botterill, artist Bethany Pearson, photographer Tracy Whitefoot of Whitefoot Photography and for his on-going support and for the creation of this film Jamie Agnew of the Agnew Film Company💛. Thomas's Trail is the result of a special partnership with Buxton Civic Association/Pooles Cavern - our thanks to the team there as well. Enjoy everyone - see what you can find on Thomas's Trail! 🌿

We're excited for you Rob - good luck and thank you for your support. 🎨 Can't wait to see the results and hear more about the day 😊

I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to have been invited to take part in a live Art Battle at the Greater Manchester Creative Industries Exchange this Thursday (30 April), held at New Century Hall.

Art battles are really enjoyable competitions where several artists are pitted against each other and the clock, resulting in an energetic and sometimes unpredictable 45 minutes of painting! The theme is Manchester, so I’ll be creating an interpretation of my recent piece, ‘Golden Hour, Castlefield’. Of course, this painting took me days to finish, so I’m interested to see what I can produce in 45 minutes!

When: 12:30pm – 1:15pm
Where: Food Hall, New Century Hall, Manchester.
wider event runs from 10am–8pm, with a full programme of talks, workshops, live performances, and networking with creatives from across Greater Manchester. All artworks will go to a live auction later in the afternoon, with proceeds split between the artists and a chosen charity. I’ll be supporting the Thomas Theyer Foundation.

Wish me luck!

We’re celebrating two incredible supporters, Gemma and Simon, who are taking on the Thomas Challenge!

So far they’ve completed the Chester 10K, reached halfway through the Parkrun Alphabet, and even travelled to Poland to tick off the elusive “Z”!

Next up: the Buxton Carnival Race and the Tissington Trail Half Marathon- with more challenges planned through 2026, all to support our work with young people and children.

You can follow their journey or support their fundraising here:
