The footpath from Crown Green through to Bishton Green and Packhorse Bridge has been closed by Somerset Council, after repeated notifications from the town council about the deterioration of the tarmac surface and the collapse of the riverside wall below. A Senior Asset Maintenance Officer from Somerset Council, along with other agencies, attended the site on Friday 10th April to assess the situation. Since this visit, Somerset Council have engaged expert services to advise on the necessary remedial works.

The barriers closing the footpath were fully secured in place, to prevent access to the unstable footpath. These barriers have been tampered with, which has been reported to Somerset Council, and a contractor is due to attend and fix them in place again.

The footpath is unstable - to what extent is not yet fully understood. It is part of our job to mitigate risk to those using the footpath, and to put things in place to reduce any risks. We (as officers) have a duty of care to minimise the possibility of a person/people/beloved pet being in that location if the wall and footpath does collapse. Please DO NOT USE the footpath.

Thank you for your patience, compliance and understanding whilst this area is professionally assessed and repaired.

Emergency Road Closure: – ttro796391E - Bruton Road, Evercreech

Please be aware that we have received a notification of a TTRN emergency road closure at Bruton Road, Evercreech which commenced on 9th June 2026 - 10th June 2026 (00:00 - 23:59) for a total of 2 days.

This will enable Network Plus to repair or replace a frame and cover on behalf of Bristol Water.

The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is not permitted on this occasion.
