Play Works Play Works is a local charity that supports children, families and communities across West Lothian. We love outdoor adventures and play is our work!

We offer a wide range of play-based activities, groups, one-to-one supports and community events. Play Works has been supporting children, families and communities, across West Lothian, since 1988. We are established, playful & adventurous. From our beginnings at Broxburn Family Centre, we opened The Range Playground in 1997, followed by Simply Play in 2010, the Dale Hub in 2013 and Playbase in 2017. In 2022 we brought everything together under the name Play Works. We believe that play works for children, for families and for communities and we know, from research and our own experience, that a range of play and adventurous activities, benefit children greatly and improve their wellbeing and outcomes.

Funder Highlight! πŸ’š

We couldn’t reach the people we do, nor have the impact we have, without the support of our funders. Today, we’re highlighting the Scottish Government’s Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund.

At Play Works, we believe that the benefits of play are not just for children, but for the whole family. We were therefore delighted to be awarded two years of funding from the Scottish Governments' West Lothian Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund in early 2026.

This funding enables us to deliver the adult-focused aspects of our work, supporting people experiencing loneliness, social isolation, poverty, and inequality.

Through activities such as 1:1 support sessions, cold-water immersion, and community gardening, participants have opportunities to build positive relationships, develop self-care skills, and increase their capacity to improve their mental wellbeing.

We are incredibly grateful for this support and the difference it is helping us make in the lives of adults across our community.

Our Stay and Play sessions are perfect for confident walkers through to pre-schoolers, offering plenty of opportunities for children to learn, imagine and grow through play.

At Play Works, we believe that play helps children and families become happier, healthier and more connected. Each session is filled with opportunities for little ones to explore, create and have fun, while parents and carers can relax, chat and make new connections too.

Messy Babies is a sensory play session designed especially for pre-walkers, packed with exciting colours, textures and plenty of opportunities to get messy in the best possible way!

Each week brings a new theme, giving babies the chance to discover, explore and engage their senses through safe, hands-on play. It's also a lovely opportunity to meet other local parents and carers in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

βœ… Would benefit from childcare support to improve family wellbeing, support employment, education, or training, or reduce financial pressures

🌟 Funder Highlight! 🌟

We couldn't reach the families we support, nor make the impact we do, without the generosity of our funders. Today we're highlighting RS Macdonald Charitable Trust.

In April 2026, the Trust awarded Play Works three years of funding to support our outreach work across isolated communities in West Lothian.

This funding will help us deliver:

🎈 1:1 therapeutic play sessions
🀝 1:1 family support
🧸 Stay & Play and Pop-Up Play sessions
⭐ Our Zippy Kids and Zippy Families programmes

Through these activities, parents and children will be supported to build stronger attachments, increase confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop the skills and support networks that help families thrive.

A huge thank you to RS Macdonald Charitable Trust for helping us continue this important work and reach families who need it most.

πŸ‘ΆDid you know our Play Babies session takes place every Monday from 1pm to 2pm at Broxburn Family Centre?

Play Babies is a relaxed and welcoming group for parents, carers and babies from birth onwards. It's a wonderful opportunity for little ones to explore sensory play, discover new experiences and begin developing through play in a safe and supportive environment.

The session is just as much for grown-ups too, offering a chance to meet other parents, share experiences, enjoy a chat and make new connections within the community.

Whether you're a first-time parent or adding to your growing family, there's always a warm welcome waiting for you.
