The Strathbrock Striders go above and beyond…
Yesterday, the Strathbrock Striders did their part for the local community as we welcomed participants taking part in the 57 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultramarathon.
This core group of Striders not only did the running group proud, but put a smile on the face of over 500 runners who pounded their way relentlessly along the canal.
With no official checkpoint between Linlithgow and Ratho (13 miles), it made sense for us to showcase Broxburn’s hospitality and put up our own unofficial pop up refreshment station - and what an overwhelming success it was.
As ambassador for GB Ultras and Jog Leader for the Striders, the idea of bringing the two communities together was something I never thought possible - but yesterday was a very special day which proved that a shared passion for running can bring together groups who would ordinarily never cross paths.
Bedraglled runners were fed and watered, chatted to with enthusiasm, motivated to keep going and sent on their way with a renewed sense of optimism.
Thanks so much to everyone who contributed sweets, fruits and other refreshments - you’ve no idea how much this helped the runners as they prepared for the final 10 mile stretch into Edinburgh ❤️❤️
Who knows, maybe next year we can get the entire community involved…
