🎨 HELP DESIGN HAMP'S NEW COMMUNITY MURALS! 🎨

This summer, the Rec will be transformed with brand-new community murals, created by local people, for local people.

Before the painting begins, we're inviting residents of all ages to join us for a Community Consultation Day and help shape the design. We want to hear your ideas about what makes Hamp special, what the Rec means to you, and what you would like to see represented in this exciting new piece of community artwork.

Whether you've lived here for years, recently moved to the area, attend activities at the Rec, use the Pantry, or simply care about the community, we'd love to hear from you.

There will be opportunities to:
🎨 Share ideas for the mural
πŸ–οΈ Take part in creative activities
πŸ’¬ Talk with the artist
πŸ• Enjoy some freshly cooked pizza
✍️ Sign up to take part in the painting week

Alongside the mural painting, we will also be offering additional art sessions for the community to get involved in during Hamp Art Week. Places will be limited, so keep an eye on our page for more details and sign-up information coming soon.

Following the consultation, a professional artist will create a final design using the community's ideas before work begins during Hamp Art Week.

This is your chance to help create a lasting piece of artwork that celebrates Hamp, its people, and everything that makes our community special.

πŸ“… Community Consultation Day: Friday 24th July
πŸ“ ReCreation Community Hub
⏰ 10.30am-2pm

More details, including how to book painting places and community art sessions, will be released soon.

Volunteers week 2026!

We have some photo shy volunteers but we don't want to wrap the week up without giving them a shout out.

Tammie volunteers with us through the week. Working hard at pantry, arriving early to open up and set up tables, and sort through any donations we may have had in for the pre-loved and free table sections. Tammie also runs our baby bank on a Friday morning which is an invaluable project helping parents in the community.

Donna works hard volunteering with us on a Wednesday at pantry, helping sort out our chilled and frozen donations and then is our fruit and veg wiz once fresh donations come in, she also helps members with their fruit and veg when open.

Dave works hard on a Wednesday, going to pick up any donations we receive from Morrisons RDC and then helping to unload once he gets back to the Rec. He is then one of the first friendly faces you see when you enter pantry to pay your membership fee.

Joan also volunteers at pantry, working hard helping the ladies in the fridges, breaking boxes down and counting veg.

We would also like to give a shout out to Rachel from Willow Green Morrisons RDC who volunteers her time to coordinate the donations we get every week, which has such a massive impact within the community.

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication, it wouldn't be possible without you.

Volunteers week 2026!

Today's spotlight is on Jenny, Halaleh, Liz & Sue

Jenny works hard behind the scenes helping anyone who may need extra help as well as managing the stock for the Β£1 toiletries table. Once open, she is our star sells person, helping members find bargains from the Β£1 table.

Halaleh works hard helping Jenny with our Β£1 table and our pre-loved section and helps sort out our crisps section on a morning, making sure stock is rotated and stored correctly.

Liz is one of the first people here on a Wednesday, putting tables up, sorting out our ambient stock and making sure memebers get the best value for their membership fee. Liz also volunteers helping run our breakfast club on a Tuesday morning, and also helps run our over 55 group on a Friday.

Sue helps set up behind the scenes on a morning and then is one of the friendly faces you see on the ambient section, helping members get the most out of their shop. Sue is also another volunteer that helps us out with breakfast club on a Tuesday and over 55's on a Friday.

None of our projects would be possible without the volunteer hours given by local people in the community.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication, it would not be possible without you

Volunteers week 2026!

Today's spotlight is on Helen, Hayley and Pauline

Helen is the brains behind our fridge operation, she spends hours in the fridges/freezers on a morning, playing Tetris trying to fit everything in. Once we're open Helen sorts fridge bags for members.

Hayley is our cafe manager. She manages Pauline, teas and coffees, and making sure everyone feels welcome, she is a friendly face when people enter pantry.

Pauline supports Hayley with teas and coffees and is another friendly face for our members to have a chat with whilst they're socialising.

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication, it wouldn't be possible without you.

Volunteers week 2026!

Todays spotlight is on Lelani, Meg, Abigail & Hannah, Wendy and Leighton

All 6 of these wonderful volunteers are apart of our pantry team on a Wednesday. Lelani you will all know as she is one of the first faces who greet you coming into pantry, and Meg, Abigail and Hannah help us behind the scenes setting up for the day. Wendy helps with setting up and then helps pantry members with their fridge bags once open and Leighton is also on set up duty, usually helping with the donations that have come in to us. He then helps members with their fruit and veg once we are open.

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication, it wouldn't be possible without you.

Volunteers' Week 2026

This week is Volunteers' Week, and we'll spend the week putting the spotlight on the fantastic volunteer team we have here at the Rec.

When we think of volunteers, we often think of someone helping out for an hour here and there. What many don't see is just how much of what happens here, simply wouldn't be possible without them.

Every Tuesday, we have two dedicated volunteers who meet us at the Rec at 6.30am to cook breakfast rolls and run our breakfast club, serving between 64 and 102 children and young people each week during term time.

On Wednesdays, we have a wonderful team of 17 volunteers who help run South Bridgwater Pantry. From collecting donated food, packing the fridges and freezers, stacking shelves, sorting donations, managing our cafe, there is a huge amount of work that goes into every pantry session. It is a big operation, and it simply would not be possible without their commitment and hard work.

Friday is another busy day for our volunteers. During the morning, one of our volunteers runs our Baby Bank alongside the Tots Group. Parents and carers can find a friendly face, a listening ear, and access to a range of items for babies and mums completely free of charge. The support offered through this project can make a real difference to local parents.

Then on Friday afternoons, two of our volunteers swap pantry duties for tea and coffee duty as they help run our busy over 55s group. Whether it's making drinks, helping set up activities, or simply taking the time to chat with people, they help create the welcoming atmosphere that makes the group so popular.

Together, our volunteer team contributes thousands of hours each year to support local people, reduce isolation, tackle food insecurity, and strengthen our community.

So, as Volunteers' Week begins, we'd like to say a huge thank you to every single one of them. The Rec, the Pantry, and our community are better because of you.
