🐴 90 applications for one little part-time job… 90!

We recently advertised a part-time position here at the rescue, working hands-on with the animals.

And by hands-on, we mean exactly that. This isn’t glamorous work. It’s mucking out, cleaning, animal welfare, getting wet, getting muddy, and working outside in all weathers. ❤️

We want to say a huge thank you to every single person who took the time to get in touch. It really shows just how many people are passionate about working with animals - but also just how tough the competition is when trying to get into this industry.

We have now contacted some applicants to come in for a trial, but if you applied this time and weren’t successful, please don’t let it put you off applying for future opportunities with us. Sometimes it simply comes down to what we need at that particular moment. It doesn’t mean you aren’t capable, and it certainly doesn’t mean you should give up on your dream. ❤️

If working with animals is your passion, please don’t give up.

Our biggest piece of advice? Get as much hands-on experience as you can.

Volunteering is invaluable. Animal care courses at college are fantastic and can give you a great foundation, but nothing quite replaces being hands-on and learning how to read, understand and respond to an animal.

With rescue animals especially, compassion, patience and understanding are so important. You need to learn that every animal has a story, every animal is an individual, books are just an opinion in writing, and not every animal will respond in the same way.

And don’t underestimate the other skills that can make a huge difference when competition is tough - communication, reliability, being able to drive, and having your own transport can all be incredibly valuable.

So keep going. Keep learning. Keep volunteering. And never give up on the dream. ❤️

My dream was simply to rescue a donkey one day…

And look what happened. 🥹🐴

You never know where your passion might take you.

A huge thank you to everyone who responded to our appeal for cat food pouches.

We had some arrive from Amazon and lovely pick up from our collection box inside Sainsburys at Bridgnorth.

We always need cat food as we have 24 permanent resident rescue cats here - so please do keep us in mind.

And if you’re a big company who would like to donate a big pallet …. We would love you forever 😂❤️

🧡🐈 Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! 🐈🧡

Today, we’re celebrating two very special ginger boys - Mr Star ⭐ and Orbit 🌙.

⭐ Mr Star is perhaps our most well-known and well-loved ginger gentleman. His story is one of incredible survival. He was shot, and in a cruel twist of fate for his attacker, the bullet shattered against his shoulder rather than causing the fatal injury intended.

But Mr Star came frighteningly close to death from blood loss. After an incredibly difficult journey and the amputation of his shoulder and leg, this brave boy has come through it all.

Mr Star is getting stronger each day and is happy and healthy.

🌙 And then there’s Orbit.

Orbit was abandoned inside a house after suffering severe burns across his body. His injuries were horrific, and he needed several operations to remove the badly damaged skin and give him a chance to heal.

Fast forward 18 months, and it’s almost hard to believe the journey he has been on. 🥹

Orbit is now a picture of health with minimal scars - happy, handsome and thriving. He can always be found hanging out with the parrots and tortoises 🧡

Two ginger cats. Two heartbreaking beginnings. Two extraordinary survivors.

Both of them are a reminder of just how incredibly resilient animals can be, and how much love, care and time can transform a life.

Good Morning and Happy Bank Holiday Monday.

We just wanted to share this extremely sweet photo of two guinea pig babies that were born here, taken two months apart.

How adorable are they?

I think you can see they have been well fed 😂

These two have been so well handled from day one, they absolutely love being handled and come running over for fuss and more cuddles.

I love the sound of excited guinea pig squeaks when they hear the veg bag rustling ❤️

We are looking for a weekly supplier of veg for our rabbits and guineas, whether it be slightly out of date or wonky stock…. If you know of a business or supplier who may be interested in helping support our charity, please tag them or get in touch x

We realised that Phoebe - the cat with no hips - hasn’t popped online to say hi for a little while.

I can’t believe it’s been nearly three years since Phoebe the “Spider Cat” came into our lives. Her rear legs look like they put on backwards, and her legs are hyperextended so they were stretched in a fixed position. She has no hip joints at all.

Luckily, after a full CT scan, we were able to establish that she wasn’t in any pain - she was just a little unusual looking and the risk of surgery was far too great as this would have cause significant pain and discomfort and may have resulted in little change.

So Phoebe is just another special resident here at the rescue.

She is petite, and she has had some kidney and bladder issues caused by her compact frame, but we cross those bridges when we get to them.

On the whole she is a gorgeous and lovely personality, she enjoys human attention and fuss and she gets about extremely well.

She is currently sharing a large pen with Mr Star (the cat who got shot) and they appear to enjoy each others company ❤️

We are currently in need of wet cat food pouches, so if you’re able to send some pouches from our Amazon wish list (I’ll post a link on our page) or drop at Sainsburys in Bridgnorth, we would really appreciate it xx

One of our weekly volunteers, Linda, brought a couple of her good friend - Julia and Sheila - to see the animals today, and they enjoyed their own personal private tour of the rescue. They even managed an alpaca walk with Cozmo between the rain showers.

Linda was able to share all of her new found knowledge about the animals and the stories of how they came to live here, and it was so nice for them to see where Linda is now helping out on a weekend.

🐾 PART-TIME HELPER WANTED – BRIDGNORTH AREA 🐾

We have a small part-time position available at our rescue at Billingsley near Bridgnorth! ❤️

If you’re looking for a few paid hours a week working with animals, please read on…

This could suit someone at college studying Animal Care, someone with an existing part-time job, or someone who is self-employed and looking to top up their hours.

We’re looking for someone to help with cleaning out and feeding the animals, 1–2 mornings a week. This will include one weekday and one weekend day.

And when we say all animals, we mean ALL animals! 🐹🐱🐔🫏🐶🦙

From guinea pigs, cats and chickens, right through to donkeys, dogs and alpacas.

🐾 What we’re looking for:

• Previous experience working with animals is essential
• You must be confident handling animals and have a good knowledge of animal husbandry
• Over 17 years old
• Able to drive and have access to your own car – we’re in a rural location with no public transport
• Physically fit and capable of mucking out both large and small animals
• Happy working outside in all weather conditions 🌧️☀️💨
• Reliable, responsible and empathetic
• And most importantly… love animals and have a good sense of humour! 😂

⏰ Hours: 8am–12 noon

There may also be the opportunity for extra hours if you’d like to help with other duties around the rescue, as well as holiday cover. These options can be discussed.

Due to the awful weather forecast, we have made the decision to close tomorrow.
Everyone who had been booked in has received this email…. 😞

“Dear Supporter,

We’re so sorry to let you know that, due to the rain forecast, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to cancel our final day of summer opening.

It’s not the ending we wanted to such a long, hot summer, but unfortunately the rain has arrived and it’s looking like the day will be a complete washout. Most importantly, we need to make sure our animals and volunteers are kept safe, comfortable and dry.

Everyone who has booked for the final day will receive a full refund.

We’re incredibly grateful for your understanding, support and for helping to make this summer such a wonderful one. We’re sorry we can’t finish it the way we had hoped, but we hope to see you again at another event in the near future.
