Emmaus South Wales The only Emmaus community in Wales, supporting people out of homelessness and back into employment. We are a homelessness charity with a difference.

We offer a home, work experience and a purpose. We opened the first Emmaus community in South Wales. There are currently 29 Emmaus Communities open across the UK, but this is the only one in Wales! The Emmaus South Wales community can accommodate up to 24 formerly formerly homeless people, called companions, who come off benefits (except housing benefit) and take up full-time work experience in th

e our social enterprises. Companions can stay for as long as they need and get support to gain extra qualifications for when they are ready to find their own accommodation and look for work. We have four shops which operate as charity shops and provide work opportunities for our companions and the funding to keep our community going. We also have an online shop and most recently launched Porthcawl's tourist attraction, Lucie the Land Train. Bridgend AM and First Minister Carwyn Jones was delighted to open the first Emmaus Community in Wales on 22 January 2016. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall has also visited the Community too.

💚 A polite reminder about donations

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our supporters and the donations that help our Emmaus community.

If you would like to donate items to eith our Bridgend or Porthcawl shops please bring them into the shop during our opening hours. Leaving bags, furniture or other items outside when we are closed is classed as fly-tipping.

Items left outside can become damaged by the weather, create safety hazards for pedestrians and neighbours, and often cannot be sold to support our work.

By donating during opening hours, you can help ensure your unwanted items find a new home and continue supporting our Companions and the wider community.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep our shops welcoming and safe for everyone. 💚

Thanks to their generous donations, Emmaus South Wales has received 3.95 tonnes of food, providing nutritious meals for our companions and helping to save good food from going to waste. This has prevented an estimated 12.205 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. ♻️👏

Partnerships like this make a real difference – reducing food waste, protecting the environment and helping people when they need it most.
