Friday find 🔎 We've just spotted this tree nursery in NOMA, and we think it's a great idea.

These trees will be planted into the NOMA neighbourhood one day, and people walking by can learn a bit more about the trees themselves in the meantime.

It's another great demonstration of the passion for regreening that's alive in our city region, and we love to see it! 🌳

The Green Spaces Fund provides grants to community groups across Greater Manchester who want to increase the amount of accessible, nature-rich green space where people need it most.

These incredible spaces mean more bees, more trees, and more communities making Greater Manchester a better place for everyone, one project at a time.

The Green Spaces Fund just got a bit pinker! Meet Becky: the GMET's new Grants Officer 🩷

She'll be playing a big role in the assessment of Green Spaces Fund applications and supporting organisations through the grant giving process, and we're thrilled to have her on board.

We've written a blog post to introduce her properly, where she talks about her passion for community regreening, her favourite green space in Stockport, and her love of all things pink!

A fun fact for your Friday: blackberries are not berries at all...

They are actually "aggregate fruits", meaning each blackberry is a group of dozens of tiny individual fruits called "drupelets".

The Green Spaces Fund has improved 611,688sqm of green space - roughly twice the size of the Northern Quarter.

That's a lot of ground, so bee careful where you step... 🐝

What's currently grey will one day be green... 💚

The fabulous folk over at Levenshulme Inspire are in the beginning stages of their Green Spaces Fund project, where they'll be turning the paved space in front of their community centre on the A6 into a nature hub and community garden.

Volunteers have been recruited, designs have been finalised, and the group are now sourcing plants, climbers, trees and bulbs in preparation for the big re-design which will take place in September.

We wish them all the best and can't wait to see how this space transforms...

We're finishing off the week with a brilliant Before & After from a Green Spaces Fund project in Trafford.

The Love Old Trafford community group were fed up of seeing their local grass verges being destroyed by unofficial matchday parking and litter, so they applied to the Green Spaces Fund to reclaim the space for nature.

A recent ecology report of their site shows a 145% increase in plant species, a 375% increase in all insect species and a 525% increase in pollinator species.

Green Spaces Fund Stats Drop ⤵️ Here's what our 93 completed Green Spaces Fund projects have achieved to date:

🌿 611,688 square metres of green space has been improved - roughly twice the size of the Northern Quarter.

🌱 31,671 square metres of green space has been created

🌳 9,766 trees have been planted across Greater Manchester

🫶 137,771 people have engaged with Green Spaces Fund projects

🙋 5,421 people have volunteered or trained with our groups

These numbers are truly incredible, and they're only going to keep increasing as more groups complete their projects.
