Yesterday was our Leading Cadet Hugo's 18th Birthday! Hugo joined us just as Covid started and has really flourished over the years. Staring as a Junior to be coming a Leading Cadet.

Hugo is also the first person in the unit to be selected to attend the Naval Wings Programme where he achieved the bronze badge along with recently achieving Gold Duke of Edinburghs Award.

Hugo will be staying in with us a member of staff while he is going through the joining process for the Royal Navy.

Happy Birthday!

This week is the launch of Volunteers week. Without our uniformed and non uniformed volunteers we wouldn't be able to operate effectively to deliver an amazing cadet experience to our cadets.

Our volunteers show an extraordinary level of commitment and enthusiasm and I would like to thank everyone for their time and dedication on top of full time work to run a fantastic unit. Thank you !

We would like to begin by paying tribute to our former Chairperson, Maurice Littlewood, who sadly passed away at the end of April. Maurice served as Chairperson on two occasions, from 2001 to 2007 and again from 2010 to 2011. He was a remarkable character whose dedication gave both the committee and the unit a strong sense of purpose and pride, and he will be remembered with great respect and affection.

We are also proud to share that staff and cadets attended the HMS Ardent Association’s 44th Reunion, where we joined in remembering the shipmates lost with HMS Ardent during the Falklands War. This annual occasion remains one of the highlights of TS Ardent’s calendar, and we are honoured to maintain our affiliation with the association and to help keep the name Ardent alive. We also extend our sincere thanks for the generous donation from the church service collection towards our funds.

In terms of achievement and recognition, we would like to offer a huge congratulations to our new Chief Petty Officer (SCC), Nathan Flood, following his successful completion of the advancement course last weekend. This is a thoroughly deserved accomplishment and a proud moment for the unit.
We would also like to recognise the fantastic achievements of our cadets.

Congratulations to LC Hugo on passing his Gold DofE Award and his First Aid at Work qualification, and well done to AC Keeley and AC Holly on achieving their BTEC Level 1 in Teamwork in the Community. Their hard work and commitment are a credit to themselves and to TS Ardent.

Last weekend saw Bollington and Macclesfield Sea Cadets and Sea Cadets Buxton come together along with the ASO(AT) and AASO(AT) to deliver a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition and what amazing weekend it was to start of the Adventure Training Season.

It was also an opportunity for 2 members of our staff to gain vital training hours as they progress through their Lowland Expedition Leaders qualification.

The purpose of the DofE Bronze Expedition is to help young people develop independence, teamwork, resilience, and a spirit of adventure by planning and completing a self-sufficient journey with their team.

Well done to everyone !
