Next month our new Morrisons Foundation project begins, and we’ll be kicking things off with a Parent Carer event here at the High Five Hub.

We’ll have lunch ready, the kettle on, and our Sharing Shelf fully stocked with everyday essentials for families to access if needed.

As we’re all starting to think about the summer holidays, we’re wondering if we should add a few snack items too… 🤔

Because let’s be honest, children require at least 20 snacks a day during the summer holidays. We’re fairly sure that’s official. 🤣

Here till 3pm today 🧡💚💜

It’s Small Charity Week.

When we started High Five, we were simply trying to create opportunities for families of children with disabilities to get together, have fun and spend time with people who understood. Through lived experience, we knew that family life could feel isolating and that there had to be a better way.

What started as a few families meeting up has grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

At the time, it wasn’t about community development, inclusion strategies or challenging perceptions. But somewhere along the way, we learned that small charities do something incredibly well.

We see the barriers.

We hear the conversations.

One of the biggest surprises has been realising that High Five hasn’t just created opportunities for families to connect.

It’s also helped create visibility.

Every activity, every volunteer, every fundraiser, every litter pick and every friendship helps show that children and young people with learning disabilities are active members of their communities.

Participation.

Contribution.

Belonging.

For a small charity, that’s pretty good 😊

We’ll be back at 8am tomorrow!

Thank you to everyone for being part of our Learning Disability Week.

Everyone who liked, shared, followed or commented played a part in the conversation.

We’re proud to spend every day creating opportunities for children and young people with learning disabilities to take part, contribute and belong.

🎳 Two places have become available for our Teen Bowling Session!

If you’ve been following High Five for a while and looking for an opportunity to join in, this could be it.

Traditionally, we’ve asked that only one parent attends these sessions. This has always been about keeping the focus on the young people and giving them a space that feels like their own.

As the group has grown, we’ve seen young people becoming more confident being supported by our volunteers, and parents now naturally sit separately. Giving them the chance to connect with one another, while being there if needed.

We also understand that attending a group for the first time can feel overwhelming. If it’s your young person’s first session, or they would feel more comfortable with both parents, please just ask the question. We’re always happy to have a conversation about what will help them take part.

Participation where possible.
Support where needed.

Please message us for more information or to book one of the remaining places.

🎉 This is a celebration event! 🎉

The hard work has already been done by Darren (and his poor legs 😆).

This is simply a chance for us to get together, reveal the final total, take lots of photographs and enjoy some free pizza (and hot dogs too, because they’re Sarah’s favourite 😉).

We’ll also be having a bit of fun with a family picture quiz.

Come along, celebrate an amazing achievement and help us give Darren the thank you he deserves.

Please message to book ❤️

🎉 PRE-SUMMER SOFT PLAY SESSION 🎉

We’re kicking off Saturday morning with the release of an ad hoc event for High Five families.

We’ve been asked a few times about running a Soft Play session, and recent funding success has given us the flexibility to make it happen.

This isn’t a private session. Instead, we’ll group together, enjoy a Soft Play session and share pizza afterwards.

Sometimes our children and young people need private sessions, quieter environments and a break from navigating busy places. Those opportunities remain incredibly important.

At other times, there is value in coming together, supporting one another and taking part in community spaces.

A High Five Trustee will be there on the day.

If you’d like to join us, please send us a message for the booking link, or get in touch if you’d like any further information.
