📢 We have a community request!

Our amazing volunteers have been working hard to cut the grass every Monday and Thursday.

However, we need a little extra help keeping things looking fresh and clean.

If you are ever in the neighborhood and have a little extra time, consider generously helping our gardening team to cut the grass around the Centre.

We are a small, independent charity that runs on the kindness of volunteers and our local community.

We would be so appreciative if anyone wanted to come down and help us out during these busy summer months.

We are hoping to complete things like:
- grass cutting
- hedge trimming
- weeding
- clearing branches
- tidying up the garden
- planting flowers
- and more!

If any individuals, local businesses or corporate volunteers are interested in supporting us, please send us a message or come down and speak to a member of staff. We’d love to have you on board. Refreshments will also be provided!

Thank you to everyone who helps keep the Centre looking amazing!

We held our first ever Doggy’s Day Out last Saturday and we thank everyone who came along on the day! 🐾🏆

We had a lot of fun together with our lucky competition winners and participants to all of our lovely vendors that set up stalls on the day.

❤️ Our staff and volunteers worked hard setting up the area, judging competitions and serving hotdogs, pup cups and ice cream to our visitors

We’re so happy we got to put on this event and it was great to see some of our doggy regulars and some new pups having fun on the grounds.

🌲Our café and grounds are dog friendly and we even have some dog-themed gifts available in our shop, so if you haven’t visited us before we’d love to welcome you. We look forward to putting on more events like this for the community in the future so keep an eye on our social media and our website for any events coming up!

We are two days away from our Doggy’s Day Out event and we just want to share our health and safety guidelines with everyone before the day!

Regarding dog welfare, we will be enforcing a strict lead policy for the entirety of the event. No matter how well behaved your dog is, we must ask that all dogs stay on a lead for the safety and comfort of all our visitors and furry friends.

We also ask that there are no extendable leads in use due to the potential for tangling and tripping.

Please also consider adding an ID tag with your home address or phone number to your dog’s collar.

Please do not leave your dogs in cars as we have water and shelter for all dogs available on site.

Please do not leave your dogs unattended.

Please clean up after your dogs and yourselves and help us keep the grounds clean. There are waste bins located across the grounds to dispose of waste. Please carry extra doggy waste bags on the day.

The space we will be in is a large, grassy area and vendor stalls will be located with space between them to minimize congestion. However, please monitor your dog’s temperament and behavior and remove them from any potentially dangerous or stressful situations.

Water stations will be available for dogs, but we recommend you bring a refillable portable water bowl.

Regarding health and safety, TWO first aid sites will be available: Wishing Well Vets and RVN Roving Vet Nurse. These vendor stalls will be outfitted with signs designating them as first aid stations in case of any emergency.

Photography: The event will be photographed but if you are uncomfortable being in a photo, please let a member of staff know.

We are all looking forward to the event! Please help us make the day as safe and fun as paw-sible 🐾 !

Day 7 of Volunteers Week and we're ending this week spotlighting our Workshop Volunteers☀

Here at the David Livingstone Centre, many of the classes and workshops we offer are entirely volunteer led and organised. Many of our volunteers bring their own passions and interests that they wish to share and we are more than happy to give them the space and resources to help them achieve this. Some of our volunteers have taken this and built their own thriving communities through their own hard work, expanding on what we are able to offer. 💫

🎨From Adult Handcrafts group, and the Stained Glass workshops to Wee Explorers, our volunteers seek to provide opportunities to try new things and meet new people to visitors at our Centre

Day 6 of Volunteers' Week, let's celebrate our Museum Volunteers.🏛️

Our museum volunteers are always ready to lend a hand to visitors. Whether they are on reception selling you a ticket, or roaming the floors of the museum ready to answer a particularly tricky question, they are there to help. They do everything they can in an effort to ensure that every one of our visitors has an engaging and enjoyable experience in our museum from the moment they step into reception, until they make their way out the other side.

They are the people that have allowed us to keep our doors open through the years. Without their care and dedication, there would be no David Livingstone Birthplace Museum and we are eternally grateful for the strong force of volunteers which give their time to ensure the museum remains an important feature of Blantyre.✨
