🎹🎻 A fantastic rehearsal with some very special musical talent! 🎶🎺
Whilst David is away touring this week as a pro keys player, we were absolutely delighted to welcome our very own Sarah to lead yesterday’s rehearsal, brilliantly assisted by Zoe on piano.
Sarah is certainly no stranger to the group, she’s been the much-loved admin and part of the behind the scenes pastoral team since the very beginning! Over the years, she has regularly conducted the group and accompanied us on piano in concerts, and last autumn she even stepped into the spotlight as our wonderful violin soloist. 🎻
Sarah’s musical journey began at the tender age of just four. She went on to study Music at Cardiff University and post graduate at the University of Birmingham, having previously led the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra as Principal Violin. After qualifying as a music teacher, Sarah quickly climbed the career ladder, running her own department in a busy East London comprehensive and driving achievement to levels never previously seen.
Following the arrival of her and her husbands two (also musical) children, Sarah continued her career and now teaches music at one of the highest-achieving schools in the country. She specialises in teaching A Level academic music, leads her own choir and orchestra, works as a GCSE examiner for two different exam boards, and regularly performs as a musician in musical theatre productions.
And when she somehow finds any spare time… she runs marathons and plays tennis! 🏃♀️🎾
Zoe is another exceptionally talented musician and has recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in French. She is about to begin her career with HM Government in the Civil Service, although we’re hoping she’ll still find plenty of time to make music!
Achieving Grade 8 in both Piano and Trumpet during her early teenage years, Zoe has always demonstrated exceptional musical ability. Whilst at school, and under Sarah’s tuition, she achieved the highest-ever mark the school had seen in the history and listening component of the A Level Music course. She was also selected to conduct and lead the prestigious Cantatrici Chamber Choir.
Zoe continues to perform in a variety of musical theatre productions and, just like Sarah, enjoys running marathons! 🏃♀️
Oh… and did we mention she’s also our MD David’s daughter?! 😄
We had a brilliant rehearsal yesterday and were delighted to welcome some new faces along too. There was plenty of singing, plenty of laughter and, of course, lots of cake! 🍰 All washed down with refreshments served by the wonderful bar staff at Billericay Theatre, who always look after us so well.
Finally, a massive thank you to Alex, who took care of all the logistics yesterday and made sure everything, and everyone, was exactly where they needed to be! Girl power to the fore yesterday!
