"India, India. A friend says no words can explain India to someone who has not been."

In the final part of his mission to journey from Devon to Delhi overland, Mukti Kumar Mitchell travels through the high-tech streets of Chengdu and the mud-slicked monsoon roads of Nepal to reach his final destination.

After travelling halfway across the globe without a single flight, the journey ends in the vibrant heart of India.

At Carbon Savvy UK, we believe in a high quality of life with a low carbon footprint, and Mukti's journey is living proof.

Carbon Savvy has won twin awards for "Best Environmental Services Business of the Year 2026 - UK" from both The Strategist and M&Atoday (GPMG)!

Richard Baker, Editor-in-Chief of the publications, described the awards: “The Strategist Awards represent the pinnacle of strategic achievement, recognising visionary leaders who drive transformative change across industries. M&A Today takes immense pride in recognising the exceptional firms and individuals from over 163 countries, highlighting those who have revolutionised their sector through their innovative and strategic achievements.”

Since our launch in 2020, Carbon Savvy has provided world-class personal carbon footprint calculators and worked to prove that saving the planet doesn’t have to be a sacrifice - it’s about improving your health, wellbeing, and quality of life.

🚲 Our founder, Mukti Kumar Mitchell, received the news while on a low-carbon sabbatical in India! To get there, he cycled to Turkey and travelled by train through 20 countries. The Result? Just 283kg of CO2 emitted, compared to 4,500kg for a standard return flight.

💬 A Message from Mukti:
"Saving CO2 increases your quality of life! These awards will help spread the word and take us towards the healthy future that everybody wants."

The Joy of Going Slow – Georgia to Kazakhstan

"The journey to India, for which I’d waited 15 years for the time to travel by land, is half complete as I reach the Republic of Georgia."

To protect themselves, the Chinese built the Great Wall of China, the English built Hadrian’s wall and Trump wants to build a wall, but the Georgians asked God to build the North and South Caucasus mountains, and Georgia’s fertile lands lie nestled in between.

And cycle to snowy Georgia I did... Continue reading on our website > https://carbonsavvy.uk/latest-articles/thejoyofgoingslow-georgiatokazakhstan/

“My experiences are shaped by the choice to travel by land.”

In his latest travelogue, Mukti continues his long-awaited land journey to India, cycling from Greece into Turkey and spending six mind-opening weeks in Istanbul.

This chapter takes him to the island of Bozcaada, where days are spent recovering, walking beaches rich with history, and living at a gentler pace before five cold, muddy cycling days lead to a ferry arrival by water into Istanbul.

What begins as a stopping point becomes six weeks in a city shaped by four empires and alive with craft, culture and community. A reflection on slow travel, low-carbon living, and what we discover when we choose to move through the world at human pace.

“Warm hosts make cycling a joy”

Founder of the carbon footprint website Carbon Savvy, Mukti Kumar Mitchell, sets off on a long-dreamed-of pilgrimage to Asia by bicycle, and finds that warm hosts can be the highlights of the experience.

In his first blog from the tour, Mukti shares his 2,000-mile journey from England to Greece with hosts from the cycling website www.warmshowers.org.

“In a world where so many pursue speed, Warmshowers Foundation is a community of cyclists who share the values of slow travel and good company. I was amazed how meaningful the connections were with my hosts in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Albania. We parted as friends and these stays were some of the memorable moments of my trip. My hosts in Albania filled me with inspiration for later in life – they are still touring in their 70’s and 80’s!”

“Slowly is the quickest way to get to where you want to be.”

After 15 years of waiting, Mukti Mitchell, Founder of Carbon Savvy, is finally on his long-dreamed-of pilgrimage to Asia- not by plane, but by bike, train and ferry.

There is an Indian tradition to go on a pilgrimage in your 50th year, and in his first blog in some time, Mukti shares the first leg of his landmark journey: 2,300 miles from Dartmoor to Greece, through wild heather, snow-capped Austrian Alps, quiet coastal roads and bustling Greek street markets.

In an age of quick flights and packed itineraries, this journey is a rediscovery of the slow, a life moving in rhythm with rolling tyres and changing seasons, and an appreciation for the quiet pockets of the world.

The soundtrack of his journey: Wild White Horses by Lua Maria Music
