Last night your roving reporter wasn’t roving I was on my home patch, Oakley Lodge 694. What a night it was, a Third Degree, with an excellent candidate (he knew the answers to all the questions). All the officers played their part giving a show of ritual at its best. We were also introduced to our new Provincial Visiting Officer, the retiring one can’t have done a bad job as we gave him honourary membership. There was a really harmonious atmosphere in the lodge and a lively Festive Board. The Worshipful Master didn’t do a bad job either!

It’s that time of year when you go looking for items of lodge furniture in the lodge store cupboard and they mysteriously moved or disappeared!

Your roving reporter was at Elvetham Lodge no. 4013 last night for their Installation meeting. We were treated to a wonderful illustration of Freemasonry working together, and that was before the lodge was opened. None of the Brethren present had a key to the Elvetham cupboard, fortunately the Oakley contingent had keys to the Oakley cupboard, and we were only too happy to assist by sharing Oakley regalia. So the incoming Worshipful Master was installed using the Oakley collar, that must be a first! The ceremony went very well and obviously made an impression on the new WM. There was a very pleasant and harmonious atmosphere in the bar and at the Festive Board.

Last night your roving reporter was at Oakley Lodge of Mark Master Masons 886 for their Installation meeting. Very well attended with a great atmosphere. We dined well on roast chicken with rhubarb crumble and custard for dessert.

We were also told that in the recent Mark Provincial Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund, Oakley was third in the ranking for donations, quite an achievement.

Families with blind and visually impaired children will get help and support thanks to £60,000 grant from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Freemasons! 👏🤝

Over 700 babies and toddlers with vision impairment will be able to access audio-tactile books, products and services designed by the Living Paintings charity specifically to meet their complex needs, thanks to a grant from The Freemasons Charity and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Freemasons.

Camilla Oldland, CEO at Living Paintings, said:

“We’re very grateful to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Freemasons for their generous grant.
Following our in-depth research, we’ve found that families of recently diagnosed infants of blindness or visual impairment, desperately need consistent support which isn’t readily available. Thanks to the Freemasons we can create vital resources to support families at this incredibly challenging time. We will provide the UK-wide infrastructure for infants and their families to thrive.”

The next regular meeting of Oakley Lodge will be on Monday 2nd November at 5:45 (close tyled 6:00). The ceremony will be that of Raising. Bookings for dining must be received and paid for by Friday 23rd October. For a copy of the summons, please contact the Lodge Secretary.

Your roving reporter was out again last night, this time it was Loddon Lodge No. 8223. A very pleasant and well attended evening, the ceremony was that of Initiation which their new WM delivered with style, and a very good candidate. Of particular note was that the Charge After Initiation was given by one of their newer brethren and no prompting was required. It is always nice to see the differences between lodges, at the Festive Board Loddon sing the 9 o’clock toast to absent Brethren. We dined well on a substantial serving of Hunters Chicken.
