Ahead of celebrating International Women’s Day with our units tonight, the Brookvale leaders have been reflecting on why we’re so passionate about empowering girls.

Between us, our leadership team has over 300 years of Girlguiding experience. The girls you see in this photo are actually us, many years ago, standing in our uniforms. We were once the girls sitting in the circle, playing games and earning badges, inspired by the incredible women who guided us, encouraged us, and helped us believe in ourselves.

Those incredible women made us feel seen, heard and valued. They gave us confidence, opportunities, and the skills to grow into the women and leaders we are today. For that, we will always be grateful and now, it’s our turn to inspire the next generation.

So tonight, as we celebrate International Women’s Day with our girls, we do so in honour of the leaders who came before us the women who inspired us, supported us, and showed us that girls truly can do anything.

What an incredible weekend we’ve had at Brookvale Guiding!

We brought our whole Brookvale family together to celebrate World Thinking Day, from Rainbows to Rangers. Together, we travelled the world exploring different countries through crafts, dancing, games, and songs, while celebrating the amazing global sisterhood we are all part of. At each stop, the girls collected a bead for their bracelet, with every bead being a powerful reminder that they are part of something truly global.

There was laughter, creativity, teamwork, and so many proud smiles. It was so special to see all sections learning, growing, and celebrating together. A huge thank you to Younginmind for sponsoring the event and inspiring our girls, showing them that they really can do anything. Thank you to Morrisons Basingstoke Community for keeping us refreshed with squash and biscuits and to Brookvale – heart of Basingstoke for providing a safe, welcoming space for our girls to come together each week, grow, and have fun.

Another year wrapped up at Brookvale Guiding, what a term it's been!

From Remembrance activities with our special guest Ben, who taught all four units about equipment used in the wars, to princess parties and firestation adventures. We’ve created pasta art and board games, hopped aboard a Christmas steam train, enjoyed cinema trips, and celebrated Parliament Week together.

It’s been a term packed with learning, laughter, creativity and confidence and we couldn’t be prouder of every single one of our girls.

Mission complete! 👩‍🚀✨

This weekend, Brookvale Guiding teamed up with units from Basingstoke Central District (and our friends at South Ham Guides) for an out-of-this-world Astronaut Academy Sleepover at Wi******er Science Centre!

A huge thank you to Sarah, James and Dan from the WSC team for being so welcoming and helping our girls prove that they can truly do anything.

We’re so proud of every girl who took part, from Rainbows to Rangers for their curiosity, teamwork, and bravery on this space mission. Thank you to every leader and parent who helped make it happen and for all your kind messages afterwards.

Our Brookvale Rainbows had such a lovely time visiting the residents at Marnel Lodge Care Home - Barchester Healthcare this last month!

The girls were working towards their Helper badges by singing songs, sharing crafts, playing games, and most importantly, making lots of new friends. It was wonderful to see so many smiles and laughter. A big thank you to the Marnel Lodge team for welcoming us so warmly, we can’t wait to visit again soon!

Our units have had an action-packed few months full of fun, laughter, and learning!

Rainbows brightened everyone’s day during their visit to a local care home, playing board games with residents as part of their Helper badge.

Brownies took centre stage with a brilliant Talent Show and some spooky Halloween games!

Guides explored their inner food critics with a taste-testing night, showed off their skills in their own Talent Show, and joined in the Halloween fun too.

Rangers travelled the world in our Destination X game, took part in a mental health session with Brighton Hill Guides, and wrapped up the term with our big Halloween night!

It’s been an amazing term across all sections, we can’t wait to see what adventures next term brings!

🌟 Brookvale’s Got Talent! 🌟

Over the past few weeks, our Brownies and Guides have been busy rehearsing for the Brookvale’s Got Talent Show. From clarinets and pianos to singers, dancers, and everything in between, every girl shone on stage showing confidence, creativity, and pure Brookvale spirit.

One of our wonderful Guide Leaders even wrote a poem that captures exactly what makes our unit so special and we just had to share it with you.

A Poem for Brookvale Guides

I’m proud to say with so much zest,
That Brookvale Guides are the best!
Come rain or shine we meet each week,
Busy making memories that we’re sure to keep.
Crafting, cooking, and trips out too,
All whilst earning badges… we like a few!

Ellie loves football, she's quick on her feet,
Scoring those goals – she can't be beat!
Freya's smile lights up the day,
She cheers us on in every way.
Eliza's friendly, kind, and true,
She'll always find the best in you.
Freya's quiet but finding her way,
She grows more confident with every day.
Sophie's the one who knows all the facts,
From stars to science — she's got our backs!
Imogen and Orla? Oh, what a pair!
Chatting away without a care.
Ivy and Chloe tumble and twist,
Gymnastics stars — you get the gist!
Tilly's got energy, bouncing around,
She lifts our spirits when we're hall bound.
Clara's the sensible one of our crew,
A leader in the making — it’s true!

This talent show was just for fun,
We saw your talents before we begun.
We learn to lead and we learn to care,
To face new things and always dare,
To speak up loud, to stand up tall,
To know that girls can do it all!

This summer, two of our Rangers joined girls from across Hampshire North for an unforgettable adventure with the Rona Sailing Project. They spent four days living and working together aboard the yacht Merrilyn, learning to hoist sails, take the helm, and keep the crew fuelled with meals at sea.

The trip was about more than just sailing: it was about teamwork, resilience, and confidence. We’re so proud of them both for stepping out of their comfort zone, embracing the challenge, and proving that girls can do anything.

That’s a wrap on another amazing year at Brookvale Guiding!

We ended the term with a bang, zorbs, axe throwing, water games, tie-dye, picnics and plenty of laughter in the park.Thank you to all our girls, volunteers and families for making it so special.

A huge thank you to the Gilbert White's Study Centre for inviting our Brookvale Rainbows along to their brilliant River Studies workshop yesterday!

The girls had an amazing time exploring the river, learning about the wildlife, and discovering what lives in our local rivers. They were so excited to catch lots of little fish and even spotted a slow worm!

Such a fantastic outdoor adventure, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to learn, explore, and have fun in nature.
