Here at Bowes Show, we have always believed it’s incredibly important to give our local young farmers the opportunity to showcase their livestock and come together with like-minded people from across the farming community. 🌱🐑

Our Young Handlers classes in the sheep section are always extremely competitive, with enthusiastic young exhibitors proudly presenting their favourite sheep and promoting a wide variety of breeds.

Agricultural shows like Bowes play a vital role in bringing generations of farming families together. They celebrate hard work, showcase the quality and diversity of our livestock, and help support and promote the future of our industry.

We’re always proud to see the next generation stepping into the ring. 👏

The tractor classes are always a real highlight at Bowes Agricultural Show – and they never fail to draw a crowd 🚜

From gleaming new paintwork to beautifully preserved originals wearing every year of their history with pride, tractors of all shapes and sizes line up on show day.

What makes them truly special? Every single one is a fantastic working example of its era!

We have three classes for tractor’s on show day:
🚜Pre-1960
🚜Post-1960
🚜Vintage machine or attachment for use with a tractor

Visitors can get up close and personal with the tractors as they’re on display throughout the day, before they take centre stage in the grand parade in the main ring – always a brilliant sight and always a favourite with the crowd.

Make sure you join us on 15th August 2026 to see these wonderful machines in all their glory!

And if you fancy entering your own tractor, keep an eye on our social media pages for details on when entry forms become available… 👀🚜

BOWES SHOW - THEN & NOW! 🐄🐑🐎

In 1869, the very first Bowes Show took place in a paddock behind the Unicorn Inn, with just 116 entries across the cattle, sheep and horse classes.

The report from that inaugural show makes fascinating reading — a snapshot of rural life, community spirit and proud stockmanship that laid the foundations for everything the show represents today.

Fast forward to 2026… and Bowes Show continues to evolve – with a new date and a new location.

📅 Saturday 15th August 2026
📍 Lowfield Farm, Bowes DL12 9JR

While livestock remains at the heart of the show, today’s Bowes Show also showcases fiercely competitive industrial and horticultural classes — highlighting rural skills, creativity, skilled bakers, craftspeople and gardeners, alongside quality cattle, sheep, horses, vintage tractors and a fun dog show and dog agility!

From 116 entries in a paddock behind the Unicorn Inn to a thriving celebration of agriculture, industry and community — the spirit of 1869 still lives on!

🎪Come and be part of the tradition.

🏵Join us at Lowfield Farm, Bowes Village on Saturday 15th August 2026.

📣EXCITING CHANGES FOR BOWES SHOW!📣

📅 A NEW DATE IN AUGUST!

Bowes Show is heading into summer, with this year’s show taking place on Saturday 15th August.

The show has traditionally taken place in September and as many will appreciate, the September weather in Bowes can be unpredictable. In recent years this has brought challenges for everyone involved – from difficult ground conditions to reduced visitor numbers. September also coincides with many key sheep sales across the region, meaning some farming exhibitors have been unable to attend or bring their best stock due to sale commitments.

By moving the show to August, the Show Committee hopes to enjoy more settled summer weather, welcome families and visitors during the school holidays, and ensure farming communities are freer from autumn pressures – creating a better experience all round.

📍 A NEW VENUE!

Bowes Show is also set to enjoy a fresh new setting this year, with an exciting move to a more accessible new showground on the outskirts of Bowes village.

The previous showground at Holme Farm has provided a beautiful backdrop for the show for many years. However, as the show has continued to grow, access via single-track roads and the one-way system has stifled further expansion and raised increasing safety concerns.

To support the future growth of the show and improve safety and accessibility, a new site on the outskirts of Bowes village has been kindly offered by the Close family, and will host this year’s Bowes Show.

Bowes Agricultural Society and the Show Committee would like to extend their sincere thanks to Mrs Jo Guy, the late Gilbert Guy, and Mr Malcolm Wood for their generosity in allowing the use of the fields at Holme Farm over the past 28 years.

With plenty of exciting attractions planned for show day, the Society is looking forward to welcoming visitors, exhibitors and traders – both old friends and new – to a new-look Bowes Show this summer.

So make sure to pop Saturday August 15th in the diary and keep an eye on our social media to find out what’s going to be happening on show day!"
