Luca's Voice

Luca's Voice Speech Sound Disorder Luca's Voice is a charitable organisation which aims to increase the awareness of Severe Speech Sound Disorder.

We aim to provide each child who is starting their journey with intensive speech therapy a Support Pack which will include: Teddy Bear, toys, SSD therapy games, range of books, Luca's story including photos and links to videos. Promote and attend Supportive Coffee Mornings for parents of children with SSD to provide mutual support and information and increasing awareness in the area

Who is Luca?

Luca is my son who suffered from a severe form of Speech Sound Disorder. Luca was one of the lucky children to take part in a study to try a new form of intensive speech therapy. This therapy was life changing and has enabled Luca to find his voice and become a very confident chatty boy who is now 9 years old. The intensive therapy was proven to be a success and is beginning to be introduced to children with severe SSD. I have been involved in a number of events alongside his speech therapist over the past 4 years. I found at the start of my journey it was very difficult to find out a diagnosis for Luca and I had never heard of Speech Sound Disorder. The reasons for children's speech developing like this is not fully understood however the intensive therapy is proving to help children like Luca find their voice. I would like to support other parents and children on this journey through raising awareness of SSD and providing each child at the beginning of their journey a pack to include:

* Teddy bear with Luca's Voice Logo
* Story Books with characters with SSD
* Toys branded with logo
* SSD games that helped us
* Caps with logo
* Fact Sheet with Luca's Story
* Luca's Progress Videos through QR Codes

I will be making these items myself and will be fund raising for the items I need to purchase eg teddy bears and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I am in the process of getting a charity number. I feel it is important that young kids with SSD can see a recognisable logo and character in literature that is just like them and helps these children feel assured they will be able to be understood and find their voice.

I've been quiet recently online. I'm working away in the background getting the images ready for our SLT app. I am creating fun colourful images for all the speech sounds which will be the foundation for our app and to build our games.

I am part of the RADiSSD (Raising awareness of dosage in Speech Sound Disorder) UK group and we are looking at the possibility of developing an Awareness day for SSD (like DLD)

The team have developed a short questionnaire. We would love feedback from parents, teachers and SLT's.
