Friends of Bamford Station

If you are walking to the station take time to look at the natural bank, that Friends of Bamford Station are responsible for, at the entrance. There are foxgloves, fox and cubs, comfrey, mallow, yarrow, & Jacob’s ladder mingling with the docks, willow herb, grasses and ground elder. Have I missed anything?

Lovely surprise to find these beautiful self-seeded foxgloves in the rather hidden planter beneath the bridge on platform 1. Must remember to collect and scatter the seeds later this year!

The tired, faded planter on platform 2 was dismantled today and replaced with these lovely old galvanised tin baths, kindly donated by Dave Treacher. We’ve planted them up with traditional bedding plants that should provide colour all summer long

Another great endorsement for the station to station walk from Sheffield to Manchester taking in all the stations along the Hope Valley, conceived by our Chairman John Stubbs and delivered by the High Peak and Hope Valley Rail Partnership

Starting right in the city, this section of the Steel Cotton Rail Trail quickly shows off how easy it is to swap Sheffield’s busy streets for peaceful green spaces. At just 5 miles, it’s a lovely introduction to the trail and takes you past some cracking highlights before finishing up at Dore & Totley, right on the edge of the Peak District. For your information, as per these images, passengers can only board and alight from trains at the far end of platform 1 during the next stage of the platform improvement work. There is marked pedestrian access to this from the gate.

We’ve added a faux fence to the left side of the station approach entrance to balance it with the fencing on the other side. We are probably going to attach a heritage sign to it. Haven’t settled on the design or wording yet.
