Michael Simpson farms alongside his father near Killyleagh, running a suckler cow, beef and sheep enterprise.

Michael’s background in engineering took him down a different path for several years. Then, deciding to farm full-time, he was looking for an opportunity to broaden his understanding of the wider agricultural industry.

That’s when he found the Next Gen programme.

Find out more and apply today by clicking below. Application deadline: Friday 28 August 2026.

Looking to support local this summer? 🥩📍

The UFU has created a map of farm shops across Northern Ireland based off a previous post with comments telling us where you can buy locally produced, Farm Quality Assured (FQAS) beef.

The locations below have been shared with us, but if we've missed a farm shop near you that sells FQAS beef, let us know in the comments and we'll add it to the list.

📍Dunlarg Dexters, Keady
📍Hillstown Farm Shop, Randalstown
📍Lisnahay Farm Meats, Larne
📍Clare Upper Dexters, Castlederg
📍Castlescreen Farm, Downpatrick
📍Ballymoat Farm, Newtownards
📍Clarkhill Farm, Newry
📍Croobview Beef Shorthorns, Dromore
📍Farm to Fork, Portaferry
📍Buchanan's Farm Shop, Maghera

As part of our 'Where's Your Beef From?' World Cup campaign, we're encouraging consumers to take a closer look at where their beef comes from. When shopping, don't be afraid to ask where the beef comes from.

By choosing locally produced, Farm Quality Assured beef, you're backing Northern Ireland farmers, supporting a trusted local industry and helping to keep high-quality food on our tables.

This World Cup, make NI beef your winning choice🥩🏆

Meeting with Ulster Farmers' Union 👇🏻

Great to meet with James McCluggage from the Ulster Farmers’ Union to discuss a number of important issues affecting local farmers here in East Antrim and across Northern Ireland, as well as to receive assistance on a number of local constituency cases.

I would like to thank James and everyone at the UFU for their unwavering support of our farmers and food producers. Their expertise and willingness to engage on both wider agricultural policy matters and individual constituency concerns is greatly appreciated.

Our farmers play a vital role in sustaining rural communities, producing high-quality food, and contributing significantly to our local economy. I, along with my party colleagues, will continue to do all we can to champion Northern Ireland’s producers and support our fantastic farming community as they navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
