Today we remember Leo Crabtree❤️

Many will know Leo as the talented artist behind the wonderful Coconutters painting hanging proudly on the wall here at The Crown, a piece that means a lot to us and always gets admired by visitors old and new.
We’re honoured to still have his work hanging in the pub today, and it will continue to be appreciated for many years to come.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Leo’s family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known him.

Rest in peace Leo🍻

At the stroke of 9 o’clock on Saturday 4th April 2026, the world famous Britannia Coconut Dancers began their annual Easter Saturday Boundary Dance in traditional style outside the old Travellers Rest pub, accompanied by Stacksteads Band.

The morning opened with two garland dances followed by the iconic Nut Dance, setting the tone for another unforgettable day steeped in history, tradition, and community spirit.

The weather could not have been better for a full day of dancing from boundary to boundary. Clear skies and a welcome breeze helped keep the dancers cool as they made their way through the valley. Crowds turned out in great numbers throughout the day, creating a fantastic atmosphere not only on the streets but also in the local pubs, cafés, venues, and dance spots that welcomed performers and supporters alike.

The team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who spent the day collecting donations and marshalling the route, to Stacksteads Band for providing the music that drives the procession forward, to the venues that hosted the dancers during the day, and to everyone both local supporters and visitors who travelled from far and wide for coming out to support this unique tradition.

This year’s Boundary Dance also raised an incredible £1,334.92 for Andys Man Club , a UK men’s su***de prevention charity that offers free peer-to-peer support groups across the country. The organisation works to break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and encourages men to speak openly in a safe and supportive environment through its message: “It’s okay to talk.”

The generosity shown throughout the day once again demonstrated the strong sense of community that surrounds the Easter Saturday tradition and ensured that the 2026 Boundary Dance was another tremendous success for both the dancers and an important charitable cause.

The Britannia Coconut Dancers of Bacup are a traditional Folk dancing team from Bacup, Lancashire. The team appears at Folk and Morris days, Rush Carts and Carnivals. The teams main day of the year is their Easter Saturday Boundary Dance where they dance boundary of their home town.
