1 million older people haven’t spoken to anyone in a month and 4 million say the television is their main form of company.

Chesham Town Council, with the help of a grant from Heart of Bucks & support from Age UK Buckinghamshire, set up monthly coffee mornings at the Stage Door Cafe at The Elgiva with the aim of supporting older residents, those who may be lonely or looking for company.

If you know of a family member, neighbour or friend who you feel would benefit from joining us please share these details. Transport can be provided.

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week and Learning Disability Week 💜

Both are so important when we think about dementia care, because dementia doesn’t just affect memory - it can also deeply affect connection, communication, and confidence.

People living with dementia may:

🧩 Struggle to remember conversations or recognise faces

💬 Find it harder to communicate their thoughts and feelings

💔 Experience loneliness, even when surrounded by others

For some individuals with a learning disability, the risk of developing dementia (especially conditions like Down’s syndrome) can be higher - making awareness and understanding even more vital 💙

✨ What can we all do?
✔ Take time to listen patiently
✔ Use simple, clear communication
✔ Offer reassurance and familiar routines
✔ Most importantly… help people feel seen, heard, and valued
A small moment of connection - a smile, a chat, holding someone’s hand - can make a huge difference 💜
Let’s use this week to remind ourselves that nobody living with dementia should feel alone.

Yesterday, our lovely Julie, one of our dedicated Dementia Support Workers, attended CareFest 2026 hosted by Carers Bucks at Burnham Library.
It was a fantastic event, and Julie really enjoyed meeting everyone and sharing what we do.
A big thank you to those who stopped by to say hello – it was great to connect with you!

💜 Carers Week 2026 - Celebrating Unpaid Carers 💜

This Carers Week, we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible unpaid carers who give their time, energy, and love every single day.
A special thank you goes to those caring for a loved one with dementia - and especially to partners who have seen their relationship change, but continue to stand side by side with unwavering compassion.
Being a carer isn’t just about the practical things you do. It’s the patience, the strength, the late nights, the quiet worries, and the constant love you give - often without recognition.
To every partner who has become a carer:
You are seen. You are valued. You are not alone. 💫
Your dedication makes a difference every single day, even when it feels tough.

Dementia UK

Sir Jackie Stewart won the Monaco Grand Prix three times - in 1966, 1971 and 1973 - mastering a circuit where precision and mindset are everything.

Monte Carlo’s narrow streets defy conventional racing norms, demanding precision, intricacy and skill. Sharp turns and unforgiving barriers - a challenge perfectly suiting Sir Jackie’s smooth, measured driving style.

His legacy here is built on precision, concentration and consistency on one of Formula 1’s most unforgiving circuits.

Dementia research demands those same qualities. Which ideas to pursue, which risks are worth taking and which dead ends to abandon can all shape the pace of progress.

With bold, innovative science informed by Formula 1 engineering and philosophy, we continue the pursuit of mastery to find a cure for dementia.

💙 Supporting Someone Living with Dementia 💙

Supporting a loved one living with dementia begins with patience, understanding, and compassion. Keeping communication calm and simple can help reduce confusion and create a sense of comfort. Familiar routines provide reassurance and stability, making each day feel more manageable and secure.

Most importantly, focus on shared moments rather than memories that may be fading. A smile, a gentle conversation, listening to favourite music, or simply sitting together can bring joy and connection. Even when words become difficult, kindness, presence, and understanding continue to speak volumes.

Every small moment of connection matters.
