🎶 A little bit about how we’re run!
Did you know that Atherstone Choral Society is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)? We’re a registered charity, run by our members for the benefit of our choir and wider community.
Last night we held our AGM and elected our committee for the coming year.
Meet our Chair Pru! 👋 Here are a few questions and answers to help you get to know her a little better.
🎵 How long have you been singing?
I first sang in a choir when I was 13, with Rainham Ladies Choir, and continued at university. I’ve been singing regularly for more than 30 years! I think you can safely say I love singing! I sing with two other choirs as well as my church choir, so there’s rarely a quiet week.
One of my brothers was a Cathedral chorister at Rochester Cathedral, and hearing the choir there had a huge influence on my love of choral music. In those days, girls couldn’t sing in cathedral choirs, which is something I would have loved to do.
🎼 What do you enjoy most about ACS?
I love the music we sing, the company of fellow singers and the challenge of sight-reading, especially now that I sing alto.
🎻 Do you have a favourite piece of music?
It’s so difficult to choose, but Five Variants on Dives and Lazarus by Ralph Vaughan Williams is a strong contender. It’s beautiful and always leaves me feeling calm and serene.
🎭 What was the last concert you went to?
In August, I went to a showcase of opera scenes in St Andrews, Scotland, featuring some of the exciting classical stars of the future.
With rehearsals at least three nights a week and plenty of performances, finding time to attend concerts can be tricky — but perhaps I should make more of an effort!
