Cheese Puff Death Squad hit the stage at The Ashton Jubilee Club last night with an incredibly packed, high-energy setlist that kept the crowd on their toes, even if the sheer variety felt a bit like a rollercoaster.
The band clearly isn't afraid to tackle a massive range of genres. They kicked things off with absolute power, tearing through heavy rock and punk staples like AC/DC’s *"Let There Be Rock"*, Oasis's *"Ci******es and Alcohol"*, and The Hives' *"Hate To Say I Told You So"*. The early momentum was undeniable, especially when they rolled straight into crowd-pleasers like *"I Fought The Law"* and a double dose of S*x Pistols energy with *"Pretty Vacant / God Save The Queen"*.
However, mid-set, the musical direction got a little dizzying. Blending Cameo’s funk-rock *"Word Up"* and Jet’s *"Are You Gonna Be My Girl"* into heavy classic rock monsters like *"Doctor Doctor"*, *"Purple Haze"*, and ZZ Top’s *"Sharp Dressed Man"* showed immense versatility, but it occasionally felt like two entirely different bands were playing on the same night.
The energy peaked massively toward the end as they hammered out back-to-back rock anthems, including *"Highway to Hell"*, *"Rock 'n' Roll"*, and a heavy-hitting punk segment featuring Green Day’s *"American Idiot"* and *"Basket Case"*. Closing out a mammoth night with Queen, T. Rex’s *"20th Century Boy"*, and Electric Six's *"Gay Bar"*, the band proved they know exactly how to throw a party, even if the musical flow was a bit of a wild ride.
