Mullabrack GFS

Mullabrack GFS Mullabrack GFS is a vibrant uniformed, youth organisation working with girls and women This year the GFS is 140 years old.

The Girls' Friendly Society was founded in London in 1875 by an Irishwoman Mrs Elizabeth Townsend to provide support, skills and training for girls who came from the country to work in the city. It was a society for friendship and recreation in which all girls might share a bond together in the fellowship of Christian love and service. The movement spread rapidly all over England and came to Irela

nd in 1877 and also to America and Australia about the same time. The Girls' Friendly Society is the oldest Church of Ireland organisation for girls and women. A wide spectrum of interest is covered in the badge syllabus, which includes a study of the natural world, the community and the church handcrafts and skills, information technology, sports and outdoor pursuits, as well as participation fund raising to demonstrate our will to help others, both locally and globally. The GFS consists of the following sections:

Where's The Piccolo?

Sir Michael Costa was conducting a rehearsal in which the orchestra was joined by a great chorus. About halfway through the session, with trumpets blaring, drums rolling, and violins singing their rich melody, the piccolo player muttered to himself, "What good am I doing? I might just as well not be playing. Nobody can hear me anyway." So he kept the instrument to his mouth, but he made no sound. Within moments, the conductor cried, "Stop! Stop! Where's the piccolo?" It was missed by the ear of the most important person of all.

It's much the same way with the use of our abilities for the Lord. Whether our talent is great or small, the performance isnโ€™t complete until we do our best with what we have.

-Richard De Haan

At certain times in life, we may feel insignificant and useless. Surrounded by people with greater talent than ours, we are tempted in our weak moments just to settle back and let somebody else do the work. We reason that what we have to offer won't make much difference anyway. We forget the truth suggested by our Lord's use of five loaves and two small fish to feed a multitude (John 6:1-14).

Each of us has something important to offer in His service.

โ€œWe have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.โ€ Romans 12:6a
