🎉 Celebrating Derek’s 20 Years of Service 🎉

On Saturday, one of our volunteer crew members, Derek, attended an RNLI Volunteer Recognition Event at Hopetoun House, near Edinburgh.

These special events recognise and celebrate RNLI volunteers who have reached long-service milestones and received awards, honouring the dedication, commitment and selflessness they show in helping to save lives at sea.

Last year, Derek marked an incredible 20 years of service with the RNLI — a remarkable achievement and testament to his ongoing commitment to our station and community.

Derek continues to play an important role as a member of our volunteer crew, always willing to lend a hand, share his experience, and keep spirits high with his winsome humour.

From all of us at the station, thank you, Derek, for your continued dedication, service and support over the past two decades. We are proud to have you as part of our crew. 🫡

📣BIG WEEKEND FOR ONE OF OUR OWN📣

Lets show some good support to Cammy in comments!!! 💪

🏃‍♂️Cambo’s 24-Hour Ultra Challenge for Our Lifeboat Station 🏃‍♂️
Volunteer crew member Cambo is turning 40 this year and he’s chosen a seriously tough way to celebrate… by taking on a 24-hour ultra marathon!
The event is a 4.2 mile loop, repeated as many times as possible within 24 hours. Cambo is aiming to complete at least one loop every hour, putting him well on track to smash an incredible 100+ miles.
As one of our dedicated volunteer crew, Cambo is doing this challenge to raise funds for our very own lifeboat station. Many of you will know him as the “merman of Arbroath” through his coastal tours along the cliffs—but the big question is… does he have 100 miles on land in him?
Cambo says:
“I am raising money for my town’s lifeboat station—the crew are such an incredible group of people and I’m very grateful to be part of the team.
This year I turn 40 and wanted to do something that would really challenge myself… a 24-hour ultra will definitely do that. Follow my progress on my JustGiving page to find out!”
Every bit of support will help push Cambo that extra mile—literally.
If you can, please donate and cheer him on!

Today, our thoughts are with the families, friends, and colleagues of Bill Ewen and Frank Petsch of Marine Rescue New South Wales, Australia, who tragically lost their lives in Ballina last month while serving their community.

Alongside the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) and search and rescue organisations around the world, all RNLI stations will fly the flag at half-mast on Monday 15th June in their memory.

Bill and Frank’s ultimate sacrifice is a powerful reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness shown every day by those who answer the call to save lives at sea. Their commitment to helping others will never be forgotten.

As we join the international search and rescue community in paying tribute, we honour not only Bill and Frank’s service but also the unwavering dedication of all maritime search and rescue personnel who put themselves at risk for the safety of others.

Rest in peace, Bill and Frank. Your service, courage, and sacrifice will always be remembered. 💙

🏃‍♀️🌊 Run, Lara, Run! 🌊🏃‍♀️

Today, the incredible Lara is taking on the London Marathon in support of the RNLI, helping provide the essential training and lifesaving equipment that allow crews like ours to continue answering the call and saving lives at sea.

Last month, Lara showed her determination with an epic run from Montrose to Broughty Ferry stopping in along the way to visit stations RNLI Montrose, Broughty Ferry Lifeboat - RNLI and including us.
Her commitment and energy were nothing short of inspiring!

From all of us here at Arbroath Lifeboat Station, we’re right behind you every mile of the way, Lara.

🚤🚁Training Exercise Underway Today 🚤🚁

You may notice increased activity off Lunan Bay today as our volunteer crew takes part in a scheduled training exercise alongside Offshore Rescue Helicopter “Viper One.”

These exercises are a vital part of keeping our crew and partner agencies ready to respond quickly and effectively when real emergencies happen.
Working closely with the helicopter team allows us to practise coordinated rescues in challenging offshore conditions.

If you’re in the area, there’s no cause for concern, this is a planned training session. So look to the sea and sky and enjoy watching what we train to do.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Stay safe and enjoy your day by the coast!

📟 On Wednesday afternoon, our volunteer lifeboat crew were tasked by HM Coastguard following reports of concern for a yacht entering restricted waters off Barry Buddon during a routine live firing exercise. 📟

Our crew launched the B-Class Atlantic 85 June Marshall and made best speed to the area. After confirming that live firing had ceased, they entered the restricted zone and carried out a thorough search. No vessel or casualties were found, and surrounding areas were also checked to ensure no one had come to harm.

With all areas searched and nothing further to report, our volunteer crew were stood down and returned to station. Our shore crew then recovered the Atlantic 85, which was washed down and made ready for service once again.

A great outcome all round, with excellent coordination between the MOD, HM Coastguard, and RNLI volunteers.

🚩Safety Reminder 🚩
Barry Buddon regularly conducts live firing exercises. These are announced in advance, and red flags are flown to indicate restricted access while firing is taking place. Please always check and stay clear for your safety.
