Speaker from Strathmore Rugby Club Community Trust



The speaker at the latest meeting of Arbroath Rotary Club was Margaret Ann Lawrie, the daughter of Club Member William Lawrie.



Margaret Ann, known as Maggie, who holds a Degree in Sport and Recreation Management joined Strathmore Rugby Community Trust in 2019. She delivered a detailed, informative, and engaging presentation on the Strathmore Rugby Club Community Trust which itself was founded in 2017,



Her talk focused on the work done by the Trust namely supporting and inspiring people of all ages through the ethos of rugby. She gave details on nine initiatives which the Trust deliver across the county including wide ranging projects such as Walking Rugby, Strathie Pups, Sporting Memories Autism Rugby, the Rugby Academy and the Try Zone. The Trust confidently believes that these projects and others improve the participants’ physical and mental health, wellbeing and promote a sense of community and belonging.

ROTARY YOUNG MUSICIAN COMPETITION

Well done to Ewan, Dylan, Finlay and Marci, the D1010 Young Musician Finalists, for their fantastic results at the Rotary Scotland Young Musician Competition (Regional Heat) last weekend. Another wonderful day of music in Dundee.

Instrumental winner: Ewan McAree, Bagpipes (Rotary Club of Arbroath)
Instrumental runner-up: Finlay McLuckie, Trumpet (Rotary Clubs of Elgin / Forres)

Vocal winner: Dylan Wallace (Blairgowrie & District Rotary)
Vocal runner-up: Marci Patterson (Rotary Auchterarder & District)

We wish Dylan and Ewan all the best as they now progress to the National Final on Saturday 25th April in Hartford, Cheshire.

A huge thanks to all involved in running Young Musician events throughout the year - these results are testament to the hard work of organisers, instructors & musicians.

Arbroath Rotary Club Charity Ceilidh

Tickets are still available for Arbroath Rotary Club’s Charity Ceilidh which will take place on Friday the 21st November at the Royal British Legion in Arbroath with the doors opening at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. The evening will provide a welcome introduction to ceilidh dancing especially to people who have little or no experience as the dances will be walked through and called. The music will be provided by the Swilcan Dance Band who play at ceilidhs and Scottish Country Dances in Fife and Angus with the proceeds of this event going to Arbroath St Thomas Swimming Club and tickets can be obtained by phoning 07596745121 at a cost of £10 each with youngsters under 18 years old gaining free admittance.
