A week long awareness on International Day Against Drugs and Illicit Trafficking concluded yesterday (Friday, 5th June, 2026). It was a week filled with various guest speakers highlighting issues such as Reducing Gender Based Violence, Stop Sexual Harrassment, Social Media and Online Safety Rules, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Drugs and HIV.

The official launching of the IDADAIT WEEK was done on Monday, 1st June by our Head of School Mr. Rishi Chand. The week concluded with a formal program, where Mr. Pio Sovalevu (Valelevu Community Policing Officer) was our guest of honor.

From Rishikul Primary, we'd like to thank Social Welfare Valelevu, Substance Abuse and Advisory Council, Valelevu Community Policing and Officials from St. Giles Hospital for delivering powerful messages to our student during the week long program.

Bidding farewell to our student, Ekavir Chand of Year 801 yesterday (25th April, 2026).

It was an emotional moment for the entire school family, as we had to endure the pain of losing one kid, whose aura and kindness will remain with us forever. Though your time with us was short Ekavir, the impact you leave behind will be with us forever.

Special thank you to our Head of School, Mr. Rishi Chand, for delivering a powerful eulogy for Ekavir. Thank you to the class teacher, Mrs. Laisa for reflecting on Ekavir's legacy in class. To our Rishikul Mahasabha Board Memeber, Mr. Jagat Prasad, thank you for standing with us in this moment of grief. To our school manager Mr. Gyan Chand Sumer, thank you sir for your kindness towards the family. To our former staff, Mrs. Krishma Devi, thank you for showing up and making a beautiful wreath for Ekavir. To the students, we like to acknowledge your presence, accompanying the school staff for the funeral. And to all our staff who made their way for the funeral, your time yesterday meant a lot for all of us. And finally to our Rishikul Family, thank you for standing with us in a time of sorrow.

It is with deep sorrow and immense sadness that we announce the passing away of our student, Ekavir Chand of Year 801.

We gather our thoughts with heavy hearts, remembering a beautiful young soul who left us far too soon. At just 13 years old, he showed a kindness and selflessness that many strive for in a lifetime. He was the kind of person who always put others first—whether helping at home, supporting his classmates, or simply offering a kind word when it was needed most. His gentle nature made him a loving son, a caring brother, and a true friend to so many.

One memory that will always stay with us is how, every single morning, he would greet his teacher with a warm smile and a cheerful “good morning to you.” It wasn’t just a routine—it was a reflection of who he was: thoughtful, respectful, and full of light. That simple gesture had a way of brightening the day, reminding everyone around him of the goodness in the world.

We are deeply grateful for the time we were given to know him, to learn from his kindness, and to witness the quiet but powerful way he cared for others. Though his time here was short, the love he shared and the impact he made will remain in our hearts forever.

Rest in peace, our Ekavir. You will always be missed. Year 801 will not be the same without you.

PS: We humbly request all to respect the privacy of the grieving family, and to keep them in prayers as they go through this tough time of losing a beautiful soul.

Today, our students demonstrated a powerful lesson that goes beyond the classroom — the value of respect, unity, and cultural understanding.

As the funeral procession of our former President, the late Hon. Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, is about to pass by, our students sit in silence, paying their respects with dignity and grace. It is a moving moment, one that reflects not only their upbringing but also the deep-rooted values we strive to instill every day.

In this brief moment, they have shown what it truly means to honour leadership, legacy, and nationhood. We are incredibly proud of the maturity and respect displayed by our young learners.

Moments like these remind us that education is not just about books, but about shaping character and building a respectful society.

PUBLIC ADVISORY - SCHOOL OPERATIONS UPDATE

The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro wishes to inform all parents, guardians, students, and school management that all schools in the Central and Eastern Divisions will reopen tomorrow, Friday 10 April, while schools in the Western Division will remain closed.

The Minister advises that all schools to be in full and normal operation by Monday 13th April. All schools in the Northern Division are to continue operating as normal.

This decision is based on the latest situational reports and in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO). Current assessments indicate that several evacuation centres remain active in the Western Division, including three in Ba and Tavua, eleven schools being used as evacuation centres across Lautoka, Nadi, and Yasawa, six in Ra, and one in Nadroga/Navosa.

In addition, many affected areas in the Western Division continue to experience power and water disruptions, and some access routes remain unsafe. The Ministry also notes that many students travel significant distances to school, which may pose further risks under the current conditions. Given these ongoing challenges, the safety of all students remains the highest priority.

Parents and guardians are strongly advised to keep children at home where schools remain closed, to ensure that children do not attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances, and to encourage children to engage in home-based learning activities such as reading and revision during this period. All Heads of schools are to provide regular updates and liaise with their Divisional Education Offices on their teachers and learning activities.

The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.

Honourable Radrodro extends best wishes to all Fijians and visitors for their safety and well-being.

Vinaka vakalevu and God bless.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, advises all parents, guardians, students, and school management that schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions will remain closed tomorrow Thursday 9th April while schools in the Northern Division will resume for classes.

This decision follows updated situational reports from all four divisions, in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), and reflects the ongoing impact of adverse weather conditions across parts of the country.

Current reports confirm 1,019 evacuees across affected areas, including 698 in the Western Division, 221 in the Central Division, and 100 in the Eastern Division. Several schools in these divisions continue to operate as evacuation centres, further limiting their readiness for normal school operations.

Flooded roads, unsafe crossings, and restricted access routes continue to pose significant risks. The Ministry emphasises that the safety and well-being of all students remains the top priority.

Students in the affected divisions are to remain at home under the supervision of parents and guardians. Parents are strongly urged to ensure that children do not attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.

Subject to further assessments, schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions are expected to resume on Monday, pending official confirmation.

Tertiary institutions are encouraged to make independent decisions based on their own risk assessments. Academic arrangements and alternative online learning or work arrangements should be in place for the affected students and staff.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to support learning from home through school-provided platforms and resources.

The Ministry will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates.

Hon. Radrodro extends his best wishes to all Fijians and visitors during this period.

Vinaka vakalevu and God bless.
