🌊 World Water Day 2026 – Water & Gender

Empowering youth voices for a sustainable future!

This World Water Day, Rotary Pacific Water for Life Founda hosted a tertiary students debate funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade New Zealand High Commission, Suva, Fiji, Rotary New Zealand World Rotary NZ World Community Service Rnzwcs Limited, Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation, bringing young leaders together to advocate for critical issues in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). Supported by key partners, this initiative strengthens informed dialogue and inspires action toward sustainable development in our communities.

Under this year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” the focus is clear: while access to safe water is a fundamental human right, many communities across the Pacific—including Fiji—still face challenges in water access, quality, and climate resilience.

Women and girls play a vital role in water management at the household and community level, yet remain underrepresented in decision-making. Addressing this gap is essential. Inclusive leadership in water governance is not just fair—it is key to building stronger, more resilient, and sustainable communities.

Together with our partners and the USP Students Debate Club, we remain committed to empowering young people to lead conversations and drive change in the WASH sector.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities – 3 December 2025

International Day of People with Disabilities is a United Nations (UN) day observed internationally. It aims to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

Each year the UN announces a theme to observe for International Day of People with Disability. The annual theme provides an overarching focus on how society can strive for inclusivity through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers for people with disability. This has been occurring since 1992 when the General Assembly announced 3 December as the International Day of Disabled Persons.
Today, we join UN Women in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reaffirming our commitment to advancing the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The 2025 theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” underscores the shared responsibility of governments and community members to raise awareness and inspiring actions to promote disability-inclusive policies, strengthen accessible services and enable equitable opportunities for All, central to achieving the SDGs, including SDG 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities.
Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation remains committed to this vision. Through our partnership with the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation, we continue to deliver inclusive water infrastructure projects that support resilient communities and ensure no one is left behind.
Together, let us uphold the rights, potential, and full participation of persons with disabilities as we work toward a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

🌏 Final Inter-Tertiary Debate Competition! 🎤🌱

The final round of the Inter-Tertiary Debate Competition for the Inclusive Climate Action for Fiji (ICAF Project) was successfully held today, featuring strong and insightful discussions from students of the University of Fiji and the The University of the South Pacific. Their research, critical thinking, and passion showcased the important role young people play in shaping a climate-resilient Fiji and Pacific.

📌 Debate Topic:
“Pacific Island Nations, including Fiji, should prioritize climate adaptation strategies over climate mitigation in response to climate change.”

We applaud the youth for using this platform to advocate for their views and contribute to the national climate conversation. A big vinaka vakalevu to the European Union in the Pacific and Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation for the audience prizes, and to the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation for partnering with Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation in organizing the event.

Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who attended, our judges, and our passionate young debaters—true advocates and agents of change in the climate space. Together, we continue to build a more informed, inclusive, and resilient Fiji. 🌿💙
