As Fiji prepares to host the Pre-COP in October, we continue to push forward—supporting the ground-up implementation of technologies and solutions that strengthen the resilience of our partner communities in rural and remote Indigenous Fiji.

We wanted to share this brief video with Dr. Bennett and his son-in-law, Victor, from .up, filmed during the setup and training of five solar dryers with partner communities on Nairai Island late last year.

Technologies like these may seem simple, but we believe they can make a meaningful difference—especially for women, whose knowledge, labor, and contributions are too often left out of conversations about agriculture, livelihoods, and resilience.

The same is true of handicraft and handwork. These practices are not always taken seriously as tools for resilience building. Our partner communities show us otherwise.

Women have been weaving across the Pacific since time immemorial, sustaining families, communities, cultures, and livelihoods. We believe it is time to better support that work with technologies that make sense for the people who use them and can withstand the realities of remote environments.

We’re grateful to Dr. Bennett for sharing his technologies, knowledge, time, and passion with remote communities.

Not everyone is willing to go the distance. Dan always is.

Over the past five years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Dan Hadler and his partner, Mitch Stubbs, from , on a range of projects documenting the resilience of rural and remote Indigenous communities in Fiji—and the ground-up solutions that help those communities thrive.

We love this photo of Dan because it captures so much of who he is: out there on the fringe, sharing in the joy, listening with curiosity, and helping document both the challenges and the strength of life in rural and remote Pacific Island communities.

As August comes to a close, and with it a month in which we celebrate World Photography Day, we want to recognize Dan and Mitch for their time, curiosity, creative muscle, and steadfast commitment to Fiji, its people, and their stories.

“I wish we had had this training sooner. This would have been so helpful to understand,” one elder in Vererere Village shared with our district coordinator this week.

This week, we continued the rollout of our savings and financial literacy training for communities along the Nakorotubu Coast. Men, women, and youth from five villages joined sessions across two locations, learning practical ways to save that make sense in their context and culture.

Thank you to the Bank of Fiji Reserve Bank of Fiji for delivering the training and making the effort to reach our remote and rural partner communities.

Okay, so we didn’t quite go the “I ❤️ Fiji Islands” route—but hey, who doesn’t love a little retro souvenir moment? Our new tea towels are just that: a little fun in the sun, featuring turtles, fish, and dreamy beach scenes. Each one is hand-printed by our apprentice printer crew, made with time and care, and baked in the sun. A little piece of summer for your kitchen. 🏝️🐠🐢

This week marks World Photography Day, and we’d be remiss not to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible photographers and videographers we have the privilege of working with here in Fiji.

Rob Rickman Fiji Photographer is special. That’s really where we should start with this guy! We first began working with Rob after Cyclone Winston in 2016, when he volunteered his time and talent to help raise awareness of what communities were experiencing. More importantly, he helped document those experiences in a way that enabled communities to tell their own stories, from their own perspectives.

We never stopped working with him.

Rob has a way of seeing things, and his photography reflects it. There’s a remarkable socio-emotional intelligence behind the lens. He connects with people. He reads the moment. And somehow, even the most nervous subject loosens up, settles in, and comes through as themselves in the photograph.

A big vinaka vakalevu to Rob—for the years of collaboration, for the care you bring to the work, and for the way you help people and communities tell their stories. 📸❤️
