Basic Counseling Skills Training for Fiji Ports Corporation Limited.

Strengthening ⏺️ communication, ⏺️ active listening, ⏺️ demonstrating empathy, ⏺️ rapport building, ⏺️ knowing the importance of confidentiality ⏺️ noting ethical boundaries and ⏺️ how to provide support and workplace response to staffs who may experience personal of work-related challenges were key elements of learning, from a training facilitated by Empower Pacific.

Heads of department and the human resources team of were equipped with and to enhance
📍employee wellbeing, 📍workplace support and 📍professional interactions within the organization.

Held over three days on May 19, 20, and 27, the Empower Pacific team consisted of Timaima Delai, Telu Qarau, and Ana Radrekusa who worked collaboratively to facilitate the training, supporting one another while guiding participants throughout their learning journey.

This training is part of Empower Pacific's response to organizations and institutions who requested training on specific thematic focus such as counseling, and so forth – as part of their in-house development exercise.

Blue Umbrella Day Awareness.

Empower Pacific has taken on a global campaign known as “ Umbrella Campaign” [ ] with the support from the for global alliance consisting of over 50 local civil society organizations operating across 40 countries, dedicated to ensuring that every child has the right to grow up in a safe, permanent and loving home environment. Empower Pacific is one of the 40 countries part of this alliance.

The focus of the is to recognize that boys have also experienced abuse, violence and emotional struggles. This experience by young men is often overlooked and the expectation is to remain a silent.

Safety and protection of all citizen is key to the current work of , and at large but safety, care and protection of all children, including boys and young men and their well-being is a priority and taking center stage in all spaces of dialogue in relations to the ever-rising cases of violence.

Through the joint partnership between Family for Every Child and Empower Pacific school’s awareness program – a BLUE Day Awareness was organized for Form 5, F6 and F7 including the Vocational students of School on the 21st May, followed by a session for selected Year 13 (Form 6) boys of School on May 22nd. The awareness sessions provided the school boys learned technics to recognize signs of those going through challenging times and offer first line of support to their peers.

Empower Pacific, in partnership in partnership with Family for Every Child global alliance seek to provide a safe space for boys in addressing issues of violence caused and perpetuated by boys.

For further support Empower Pacific has its -Free – 5626 that anyone can call into to report issues of abuse and receive Counselling & support.

SESSION FOR SEASONAL OVERSEAS WORKERS

The “Fiji Family Focus Program” – is designed specifically for workers preparing for overseas employment under the Fiji Government (National Employment Centre) and (Pacific Australian Labour Mobility) Scheme, together with family members who will provide support from home.

An awareness session here in Lautoka for this target group from Lautoka was made possible, with the support of the (IOM) focuses on
📍building workers confidence,
📍identifying when support is needed and
📍accessing appropriate services including
counselling,
📍family support and protection pathways.

Individuals were provided guide on how to explore , and also encourages -seeking behavior that will enhance that will in turn increase their productivity.

Facilitated by two of our Lautoka based Counsellors RAKSHIKA SINGH and ATECA LALAGAVESI – on Wednesday 20th May, the session focused on providing workers and their family(ies) (*) practical knowledge and skills in recognizing and managing stress,
(*) understanding emotions, and (*) making informed and constructive decision(s) when under pressure.

Empower Pacific hopes that such trainings – supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will assist workers to continue explore ways that will produce healthier, safe and sound, and resilient individual as they depart for opportunities overseas.

IDADAIT Week 2026

The Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking ( ) will be celebrated widely - especially with students at primary and secondary schools across the country.

IDADAIT week will be celebrated on Week 3 of Term 2 between 1st and 5th of June – in awareness, understanding and standing together for a , schools and .

For Empower Pacific - IDADAIT Week 2026 will be observed throughout Fiji with invitations from the Northern Division, Central and Western Schools.

Commitment to awareness during the week augurs well with one of our current programs on - supported by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection - Fiji.

SIMEX FIJI FOR DR 2.0 CONSORTIUM & PARTNERS

For over four days between Monday 11th and Thursday 14th May, Empower Pacific participated in the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Disaster READY 2.0 Consortium Simulation Exercise ( ), aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness, coordination, and humanitarian response mechanisms across Fiji.

The SIMEX provided a valuable platform for consortium partners to deepen their understanding of the DRCC coordination system and the “ ” activation process through practical simulation activities, scenario-based learning, group discussions, and coordinated response planning.

Participants worked through various stages of emergency response, including , , , , , , and proposal development under realistic disaster scenarios.

As part of its contribution to the exercise, Empower Pacific continued to advocate for the integration of 📍Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), 📍staff wellbeing, and
📍community-centered approaches within emergency preparedness and humanitarian response coordination.

Empower Pacific extends its appreciation to Fiji AHP - Australian Humanitarian Partnership DRCC, consortium partners, facilitators, and stakeholders for their collaboration, active participation, and shared commitment towards strengthening coordinated humanitarian action and building resilient communities across Fiji.

Our office was represented by Program Manager for our Disaster Response work - AHP and Senior Counsellor – VIKA LUMUNI, at this training held at The Establishment, Colo-i-Suva, facilitated by DRR Consultant Ratu Tevita RAROKOLUTU.

The Fiji’s National Ageing Policy 2011 – 2015 is currently being reviewed with community consultations conducted across the country where view, recommendation and feedback are collected for further development of the draft 2026 – 2035.

Empower Pacific, in its written submission proposes holistic and effective approaches for all older person’s📍mental health and their
📍protection,📍care-giver support and the support rendered by community through
📍cultural aspect. Amongst other things – the emphasis on📍psycho-social support services that is the essence of Empower Pacific’s work, a key and priority included in our written organizational submission.

As part of the finalization process – the in collaboration with the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection - Fiji convened this validation workshop to provide stakeholders the opportunity to review, validate and provide final outputs into the draft policy prior to its completion.

This Validation workshop held at TANOA Waterfront Hotel, Lautoka on Monday 18th May – was attended by senior social worker - MERANDA EMOSE who joined other institutions with similar goals such as: Age Home, – Model Town Charitable Trust, Services Pacific (MSP), of Library Services Lautoka Office, Education Advisory, of Youth and Sports, Special Administrator, and representative from the
Fire Authority, Lautoka.

Consultation will continue in other centers and divisions across the country.
