Soil Protection Youth Exchange I

🌱 10 days of learning, getting our hands dirty, exploring and growing together!
From 30 August to 8 September, we welcomed young people from Germany and France to Burg Tannroda for the first edition of our Soil Protection Youth Exchange. 🇩🇪🇫🇷
During the project, we explored soil health, permaculture, composting and sustainable land use through both theory and hands-on activities. We visited a composting facility, explored egapark Erfurt and the German Horticultural Museum, worked in teams, created presentations and spent plenty of time learning outdoors. 🌿
Of course, it wasn’t only about soil! We also shared our cultures, went hiking, exchanged ideas and created lots of memories together. 💚
A special thank you to Christiane Nienhold for guiding us through the programme and sharing so much knowledge and experience with the group! Also great thanks to our partner organization in this project Association Petite Graine

Here’s a little look back at our Soil Protection journey. 🌍✨

This project was co-funded by the European Union and supported through the Kinder- understanding Jugendplan des Bundes (KJP), with co-financing from the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ).

🌱 Workshop Recap: WHAT IF WE PREVENT WASTE BEFORE IT STARTS?

Recently, we gathered at the Next Level office for an interactive workshop exploring a simple but important question: How can we prevent waste before it becomes waste?

Together with trainer Nguyen Hue Anh from Vietnam, we looked beyond waste management and explored the behaviours, motivations, and systems that shape how waste is created in the first place.

Through a real-world case study on discarded fishing nets in Vietnam, participants had the chance to rethink where waste comes from, how we can prevent it at its source, and what more regenerative systems could look like. 🌍♻️

It was a great afternoon of learning, discussion, and sharing perspectives between Vietnam and Germany as this workshop is part of our work to strengthen exchange and cooperation between 2 countries, made possible with the support of Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken.

A big thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to the discussion! 💚

Soil Protection Youth Exchange I

🌱 From 30 August to 8 September 2026, we organised the first edition of our Soil Protection Youth Exchange at Burg Tannroda, bringing together young people from Germany and France for an intensive learning experience focused on soil, sustainability and environmental awareness.
Throughout the programme, participants explored topics such as soil health, permaculture, composting and sustainable land management through a combination of theoretical sessions and hands-on practical activities.
The programme also included educational visits to a composting facility, egapark Erfurt and the German Horticultural Museum, giving participants the opportunity to connect what they had learned with real-life practices and approaches.

Teamwork played an important role throughout the exchange. Participants worked together on practical tasks, group activities and presentations, while cultural evenings created space to learn more about each other's backgrounds and traditions. A hiking activity also offered another opportunity to experience the local environment and strengthen the connection within the group.

A special thank you to Christiane Nienhold for guiding the participants throughout the programme and sharing valuable knowledge and practical experience. Also great thanks to our partner organization in this project Association Petite Graine

The project was co-funded by the European Union and supported through the Kinder- und Jugendplan des Bundes (KJP), with co-financing from the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ).

We are happy to have created a space where young people could learn, exchange perspectives and explore concrete approaches to protecting one of our most essential natural resources: soil. 🌍🌱

🌱 WHAT IF WE PREVENTED WASTE BEFORE IT STARTS?

We often ask: How can we manage waste better?
But what if we asked a different question: Why does waste happen in the first place?

Join us for an interactive workshop with Nguyen Hue Anh from Vietnam, where we’ll explore the behaviour, motivations, and systems behind waste, using the real-world story of discarded fishing nets in Vietnam.

Through a short case study and hands-on activity, we’ll rethink how we can prevent waste at its source and build more regenerative systems. ♻️

🧶 And there’s more!
After the workshop, our team will lead a small macramé workshop, where we’ll make a reusable bottle holder while learning more about JNC Macramé and how creative skills can give materials a second life.
