Having been on the road with The Ball from March to August, followed by time at home with mum and family and friends in New Zealand, I arrived back in my other home in Erfurt, Thüringen, Germany in October. I've been so proud to see how Spirit of Football Germany has continued in my absense and I have been catching up with our amazing team on all of our myriad of projects from Unified Football with Special Olympics Thüringen e.V. to Integration of refugees to work in rural communities, social work in Erfurt to sustainability with the .
At the same time I've realised the precarious political and social situation right here in Thüringia in the green heart of Germany. I have to say that I am scared of the polarisation, the hate speech, the popularism and the possible plunge into the unthinkable in elections that are coming up next year. A few weeks ago I was interviewed by the amazing people at Good News For You. Who report on positive news stories, when negative news constantly makes headlines all over the world. Nachdem ich von März bis August mit The Ball unterwegs war und anschließend Zeit zu Hause bei meiner Mutter, Familie und Freunden in Neuseeland verbrachte, kam ich in meinem anderen Zuhause in Erfurt, Thüringen, Deutschland zuruck. Ich macht mir super stolz zu sehen wie Spirit of Football Germany in meiner Abwesenheit weitergemacht hat, und ich habe mich erstmal über all unsere unzähligen Projekte von Unified Football mit Special Olympics Thüringen e.V. zur Integration von Flüchtlingen, zur Arbeit in ländlichen Gemeinden, zur Sozialarbeit in Südost Erfurt, um mit dem (Nachhaltigkeit) in ganz Deutschland informiert und auseinandergesetzt.
Gleichzeitig ist mir die prekäre politische und soziale Lage hier in Thüringen im grünen Herzen Deutschlands bewusst geworden. Ich muss sagen, dass ich Angst vor der Polarisierung, der Hassrede, dem Populismus und dem möglichen Absturz ins Undenkbare bei den Wahlen im nächsten Jahr habe. Vor ein paar Wochen wurde ich von den tollen Leuten von Good News For You interviewt. Die über positive Nachrichten berichten, während negative Nachrichten ständig auf der ganzen Welt Schlagzeilen machen.
