Das eindrucksvolle Bauhausgebäude in Dessau erscheint in seiner kühlen Eleganz und der formalen Einfachheit hochmodern – als wäre es gerade eben gebaut worden. Das von Walter Gropius gestaltete Bauhausgebäude ist seit langem eine Ikone der Moderne, in der sich eine komplexe Idee in Stahl, Glas und Stein manifestiert. Der dritte Teil der Ausstellung „Glas | Beton | Metall“ sowie das Gespräch untersuchen das Material Metall.
Stahl und Aluminium waren die bevorzugten Metalle am Bauhaus. Neben der Gestaltung mit den Materialien stehen im Gespräch auch die Gewinnung und Verarbeitung von Metallen im Fokus. Die Kurator*innen der Ausstellung sprechen mit Gerhard Heide, Professor für Allgemeine und Angewandte Mineralogie, über Eisenerze und ihre Lagerstätten in Mitteldeutschland.

Where iron comes from and where it can be found.

The talk, like the third part of the exhibition “Glass | Concrete | Metal”, will explore the material Metal.
Steel and aluminium were the metals of choice at the Bauhaus. As well as design using these materials, the talk will also focus on the extraction and processing of metals. In the Material Talk, the exhibition’s curators talk with Gerhard Heide, Professor of General and Applied Mineralogy, about iron ores and their deposits in Central Germany.

Begebt euch auf eine Zeitreise und lernt die Bauhäusler*innen bei einem Rundgang durch die Ausstellung kennen und erfahrt, wie unser Alltag heute noch vom Bauhaus geprägt wird. Durch Hörstücke, eine Führung und einfache kleine Gestaltungsaufgaben entdeckt ihr die Vielfalt der Materialien und Ausdrucksformen des Unterrichts am Bauhaus.
Die „Zeitkapsel Bauhaus“ ist für Familien mit Kindern ab 5 Jahren geeignet. Im Juni und August findet jeweils ein Zusatztermin um 14 Uhr statt, so dass noch mehr von euch an der Führung teilnehmen können!

Embark on a journey through time and get to know the Bauhaus artists on a tour of the exhibition, discovering how our everyday lives are still influenced by the Bauhaus today. Through audio recordings, a guided tour and simple little design tasks, you will discover the diversity of materials and forms of expression used in Bauhaus teaching.
The "Bauhaus Time Capsule" is suitable for families with children aged 5 and above. In June and August, there will be an additional tour at 2 pm, so that more of you can join the tour!

Workshop: Streetlights

Eine individuell gestaltete Lampe aus Sperrmüll und Straßenfunden bauen? Genau das könnt ihr im Workshop „Streetlights“ unter der Anleitung von Möbel3000 machen. In einer Art Materialjam werden aus Second-Hand-Materialien Prototypen und Entwürfe für neue Lichtobjekte entwickelt – roh, improvisiert und experimentell. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos. Workshop: Streetlights

Want to build a custom lamp out of bulky waste and items found on the street? That’s exactly what you can do in the “Streetlights” workshop, led by Möbel3000. In a sort of "material jam", participants will use second-hand materials to develop prototypes and designs for new lighting objects – raw, improvised and experimental. Participants will create their own lights from recycled materials. Participation is free. Please register on our website.

Freitagsgruppe: Abfall + Ressource

Mit dem neuen Aktionsprogramm zur Nationalen Kreislaufwirtschaftsstrategie will die deutsche Bundesregierung Erhalt, Reparatur und Recycling sowie nachhaltige Produkte weiter voranbringen. Zugrunde liegt die Erkenntnis: Abfall ist eine wertvolle Ressource. Dieser Thematik nimmt sich auch die nächste Freitagsgruppe an. Vorträge, Diskussionen und interaktive Formate helfen bei der Beantwortung der Frage, welche Weichenstellungen nötig sind, damit aus Abfall Ressourcen werden können, aber auch, wie Abfall von vornherein vermieden werden kann.
Im Vorfeld findet um 17 Uhr eine Kuratorinnenführung durch die Ausstellung „Algen | Schutt | CO2“ im ehemaligen Kaufhaus Zeeck statt.

With its new action programme for the National Circular Economy Strategy, the German Federal Government aims to further promote the preservation, repair and recycling of goods, as well as sustainable products. This is based on the realisation that waste is a valuable resource. The next Friday Group will also be addressing this topic. Lectures, discussions and interactive sessions will help answer the question of what steps need to be taken to turn waste into resources, but also how waste can be avoided in the first place.
Prior to this, at 5 pm, there will be a curator-led tour of the exhibition “Algae | Debris | CO2” in the former Zeeck department store.

Einmal durchs Georgium spazieren, so wie Paul Klee vor ungefähr 100 Jahren? Der Rundgang in englischer Sprache führt euch auf den Spuren des Künstlers durch den Landschaftspark!
Die Teilnehmenden können sich so in Paul Klees Kunst- und Naturverständnis hineindenken, erfahren mehr über seine Zeit am Bauhaus und lernen das Georgium kennen.

Fancy taking a stroll through the Georgium just as Paul Klee did around 100 years ago? This guided tour in English will take you through the landscape park in the artist’s footsteps!
Participants will be able to gain an insight into Paul Klee’s understanding of art and nature, learn more about his time at the Bauhaus and get to know the Georgium.

Das Leipziger Schriftkollektiv Camelot Typefaces hat für das Bauhaus Dessau eine neue Schrift, die Beta-Bauhaus, entwickelt. In einer multimedialen Installation im Bauhaus Museum Dessau befasst sich das Kollektiv außerdem mit der Gestalt von Buchstaben und ihren digitalen Wandlungsmöglichkeiten. Diese könnt ihr noch bis zum 12. Juli entdecken!
Begleitend zur Ausstellung gibt es in unserer Bauhaus App eine Audiodeskriptionstour. Auch ein Tastmodell ist für euch in der Ausstellung installiert. Ladet euch kostenlos die App runter und los geht's!

In their multimedia installation at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, the collective also explores the design of letters and their potential for digital transformation. You can discover this until 12 July!

Sommerwerkstatt 2026:
Bühnenmobiles. Zirkus aus Blech
Mo – Fr, 6. – 10.7.2026

Bald beginnen in Sachsen-Anhalt die Sommerferien und das bedeutet, dass ihr euch wieder für eine spannende Sommerwerkstatt anmelden könnt! Diesmal setzen sich die Teilnehmenden mit dem Material Metall auseinander – und am Ende entsteht ein „Zirkus aus Blech“.
Nach einer ersten Materialerkundung entdecken die Teilnehmenden einfache Verfahren zur Bearbeitung von Metall. Als Inspiration dienen Arbeiten des Bauhausschülers Heinrich Busse, um schließlich eine Manege voller Artisten, Tiere und Figuren zu erfinden.
Für alle zwischen 10 und 16 Jahren. Anmeldung über unsere Website.

Stage Mobiles. Tin Circus

The summer holidays are about to begin in Saxony-Anhalt, which means you can sign up for another exciting Summer Workshop! This time, participants will explore metal as a material – and by the end, they’ll have created a “tin circus”.
After an initial exploration of the material, participants will discover simple methods for working with metal. Works by Bauhaus student Heinrich Busse will serve as inspiration, ultimately leading to the creation of a circus ring full of performers, animals and figures.

Aus der Vitrine: Kerstin Flake. Fotografische Erkundungen

Die Fotografin Kerstin Flake beschreibt im Gespräch mit Andreas Butter, Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, ihre Annäherung an verlassene Wohn- und Industriegebäude, in denen sie Artefakte des modernen Lebens scheinbar schweben lässt und zu phantastischen Arrangements fügt.
Während ihrer Zeit als Residenzkünstlerin in Dessau entstand im Meisterhaus Muche/Schlemmer ihre Fotoserie „Unsteady Stages“, in der nicht nur Stahlrohrmöbel zu einem Eigenleben erwachen. 2024 präsentierte die Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau die Serie im Meisterhaus Kandinsky.

Vor dem Gespräch findet um 17 Uhr eine Führung durch die Ausstellung „Bakelit | Glasur | Farbe“ statt.

Out of the Display Case: Kerstin Flake. Photographic explorations

In conversation with Andreas Butter of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, photographer Kerstin Flake describes her approach to abandoned residential and industrial buildings, in which she appears to make artefacts of modern life float and arranges them into fantastical compositions.
During her time as artist-in-residence in Dessau, she created her photo series “Unsteady Stages” at the Muche / Schlemmer House, in which it is not only tubular steel furniture that comes to life. In 2024, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation presented the series at the Kandinsky House.
Prior to the discussion, a guided tour of the exhibition “Bakelite | Glaze | Colour” will take place at 5 pm.

UNESCO-Welterbetag 2026 im Bauhaus Dessau: Wir öffnen unsere historischen Bauhausbauten für einen besonderen Nachmittag bei freiem Eintritt (Bauhausgebäude + Meisterhäuser + Konsumgebäude in der Siedlung Törten).
Am 7. Juni 2026 sind das Bauhausgebäude, die Meisterhäuser und die Siedlung Dessau-Törten Teil des Führungs-Programms.
Im Bauhausgebäude erwarten euch Führungen der Kurator*innen zur Ausstellung Glas | Beton | Metall und zu den historischen Bauten.
Kommt vorbei und erlebt das Bauhaus als lebendiges UNESCO-Welterbe.

UNESCO World Heritage Day 2026 at the Bauhaus Dessau: We are opening our historic Bauhaus buildings for a special afternoon with free admission (the Bauhaus Building, the Masters’ Houses and the Konsum building in the Törten estate).
On 7 June 2026, the Bauhaus Building, the Masters’ Houses and the Dessau-Törten estate will be part of the guided tour programme.
In the Bauhaus Building, curators will be leading tours of the exhibition Glass | Concrete | Metal and the historic buildings.
Come along and experience the Bauhaus as a living UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bei den diesjährigen Bauhaus Study Rooms 2026 drehte sich alles um das Thema „Offene Kreisläufe: Fundamente“. In Kooperation mit dem International Summercamp „Irregular Circularities“ im Reallabor ZEKIWA Zeitz wurden Regionen im postindustriellen Strukturwandel genau unter die Lupe genommen. Das historische Bauhaus war eng mit der industriellen Ressourcenbeute verwoben – heute nutzen Forscher*innen und Designer*innen das Bauhaus als Ausgangspunkt für ganzheitliches und ökologisches Denken.
Ein riesiges Danke an alle Partner*innen und Alumni für die inspirierenden Workshops in Dessau und Zeitz!

This year’s Bauhaus Study Rooms 2026 centred on the theme of “Open Cycles: Foundations”. In collaboration with the International Summer Camp “Irregular Circularities” at the ZEKIWA Zeitz real-world laboratory, regions undergoing post-industrial structural change were examined in detail. The historic Bauhaus was closely intertwined with the industrial resource cycle – today, researchers and designers use the Bauhaus as a starting point for holistic and ecological thinking.
A huge thank you to all partners and alumni for the inspiring workshops in Dessau and Zeitz!
